Friends of the Rosary: Today, on the Seventh Day of Christmas, we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Family of Joseph, Mary, and Jesus. The Church instituted this feast to present the Holy Family as the patron and model of all Christian families. Today is also the feast day of every family. The devotion to the Holy Family was born in Bethlehem. The shepherds went to adore the Child Jesus and, at the same time, they gave honor to His family. Later, similarly, the three wise men came from the East to adore and give honor to the newborn King with gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh that would be safeguarded by His family. Christ Himself was the first devotee of His family. He showed His devotion to His mother and foster father by submitting Himself, with infinite humility, to the duty of filial obedience towards them. St Bernard of Clairvaux said in this regard, "God, to whom angels submit themselves and who principalities and powers obey, was subject to Mary; and not only to Mary but Joseph also for Mary’s sake. God obeyed a human creature; this is humility without precedent. A human creature commands God; it is sublime beyond measure." Marriage is a sacrament that establishes a family. The children must learn how to obey and love their parents in thought, word, and action, just as Christ was obedient to the Virgin Mary and Joseph — the guardian and administrator of the divine family of Nazareth. And every Christian family must do their best to live in harmony and prayer. Ave Maria!Jesus, I Trust In You!Holy Family, Pray for Us!
