Defeating Flu and Covid Using Antiviral Medicines
from Go To Health! · host Jonathan Marx, MBA
You can watch us here: https://bit.ly/antivirals-for-flu-covid We’re in the middle of what we call “Sick Season.” It’s during the cold months when we spend more time inside, close with other people, which gives the chance for sickness to spread. Most Americans likely have at least one high-risk factor for COVID-19 and flu, but many don’t what those factors are, or that you are likely to develop severe illness if you are infected with either of these viruses. So what are those risk factors? Diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, lung diseases like asthma or and other chronic health issues can put people at a higher-risk for serious complications. Other common risk factors include being overweight or obese, immunocompromised, and being at the age of 50 years or older. Plan ahead for seeing a doctor for if and when you become ill. Clinical trials have shown oral antivirals can reduce the risk of hospitalization 60% for flu, and, according to CDC, antivirals can also reduce the risk of hospitalization due to COVID-19 by more than 50% and the risk of death due to the virus by 75%.
