Alright, so from Samuel and we've got extra-terrestrial television. Extra-terrestrial television. You're like, terrestrial television. Yes, yeah.

Extra. Yeah, terrestrial. It's funny that isn't it, terrestrial being like, oh, it's not satellite. Yeah.

Like, we didn't call it terrestrial television until... The alternative was satellite. Yeah. Does it go along the earth?

Yeah. Tera, Tera, it's terrestrial. Yeah. What does it go...

I've never thought about that before. I just thought it was like, that's just what they call the TV. Yeah. Terrestrial TV.

Like, I've never thought of an alternative to it. That's the thing. Yeah. So, so what extraterrestrial TV is just satellite TV?

I guess I got... This family gets sky in. I guess terrestrial means... Extraterrestrial means off the earth.

Which we've achieved. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Well, this is the thing. I really like starting the idea.

This is set in the 90s when people start getting satellite dishes on the side of the... In this small town. Yes. And they're like suspicious.

Yeah, yeah. Because it is literally alien television. Well, yeah, exactly. I don't want to make a joke about Rishi Sennak at this point.

Do you remember this? When he was like, as kids, we had such trouble times. We didn't even have Sky TV. Like, that was his kind of thing to sort of connect with the masses.

Yeah, I'm not rich. We didn't have Sky TV. Poor Rishi. No, no.

So, 90s, right? We set us in the 90s. This family, this dad comes home from work. He's a bit late.

No. What's going on? Yeah, what's going on there? Kids, I've got Sky TV.

He plugs the box in, puts the satellite in. Man, there's a man, a mysterious man who comes to the outside of the house. Yeah, yeah, yeah. With a ladder.

Yeah. And he helps dad put the strange device on the outside of the house. Oh, yeah. We've got 30 channels.

I reckon this has got to be told mostly from his perspective of a different family who don't have it. Really? OK. Like, in a kind of, and don't get too excited here, Tom.

Twilight Zone. In a kind of deck the halls, wait. Oh, you're right to tell me not to get too excited. In a kind of, we do see inside that family's household.

Yeah. The two families are very neighborly and connected. We do see, like, in deck the halls, we do see Buddy Hall on his own business family. Yeah.

Right. Telling them that he's just got this brand new thing. Yeah. Right.

So you do have that. I thought you were talking about. So in the deck the whole scenario, it would be Dain de Vito getting Skye and Buddy Hall being like, Oh, what's well, Buddy Hall is Dain de Vito. Is he?

Yeah. Oh, yeah. I've got that. I've watched that film a lot that I'm really embarrassed.

I just call him Matthew Broad, recognizing it. Yeah. It's called deck the halls for no reason apparently. Call the whole family.

So sorry. We were talking about waddling idiots, right? Dain de Vito and take the halls where you don't know his agenda. That's why you're so obsessed with it.

Because he was terrified. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

E.T. The cooker from a grand day out and Buddy Hall, they all have that kind of weird scariness to him. Waddling idiots. Listen to the latest scenes if you want an explanation of that.

So I'll just cut this out, put it in the latest scenes. Yeah. Yeah. So the, what I'm saying is that I mean, I don't want to do Dain de Vito and Matthew Broad.

No, no, you don't want to have a dueling families. No, but I do think there is a little bit of that over the garden wall vibe. Like sort of over the fence, sort of suspicion. So I think you do have one family who are excited to have this new satellite dish and another family who are suspicious, you know, the parents are suspicious of this new extraterrestrial television type stuff.

I also think there is something to be said about, you know, like binge TV nowadays. Yeah. Like I said, Twilight Zone earlier, sort of black mirror kind of like the new technology is bad. They have TV 24 seven now and that's a bad thing.

Because I think you can make that case that life is worse now that we have, if not appointment viewing you tune in this time or if you want to watch a different time, you tape it. Yeah. And there are only six or seven things to watch a week that are any good. It's like there's so much content that it's impossible.

Like you could, you could literally spend your entire life, people do spend their entire life sat in front of us in front of us. In front of us. I don't want to sound like, you know, a millennial or Gen X comedian here. Yeah.

But like sat in front of the television, you know, and not thinking about doing things outside of that. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

I'd say you were more by saying that you're saying more of a baby boomer comedian. Yeah. I mean, yeah, it's true. Like, but I did also like look at Kate Meeuchi's Instagram channel.

Yeah. Channel Instagram account. Yeah. She was doing, he had a reel where she was being like, you see what's happening?

Everyone's devolving because they're using their own too much. And it's like, this is Kate Meeuchi's like, you know, Gen X millennial. Yeah. Like Charlie Brook has been saying that for years.

Yeah. Yeah. But I don't know. It's just try, isn't it?

Yeah. It's just try another. There is something correct about it. It's true.

Yeah. It's just a nuance. Yeah. Yeah.

Yes. So, yeah, with, with this, I think, you know, we definitely go down the line of new technology and TV is bad for your health. I think, I think it's specifically about the change from watching TV as appointment viewing to this family start getting sucked into watching 24-hour news cycle stuff. Yes.

Right. Yeah. With the other side being that the family who are most alarmed by this are next door. Yeah.

Because they think they've been taken over by aliens. As in, like, the satellite family satellite TV family. Yep. Start changing.

Yeah. Because they're being sucked into 24-hour news cycle. Yeah. And terrestrial TV family start worrying that they've been been replaced by aliens.

The satellite family has been replaced by it. Cool. Right. Gotcha.

Gotcha. And because of this, their relationship devolves. Yeah. Like into kind of feuds.

Yes. Yeah. And sort of almost weird tribalism. Yeah.

And the satellite TV family are like, oh, yes, these, these luddites. I've heard about these on the news. It's, it's, it's, it's, it's because you're, it's because your second generation immigrant, isn't it? Wow.

Wow. They get real daily mail about it. Yeah. It's a film set in the 90s, but it's really about today.

Yeah. It's about the news cycle. Yeah. That's it.

Yeah. That's, that's, that's the kind of hidden John Peel meaning behind this movie. How does it end? I think the satellite family gets seen from space.

No. Are there really a focus on this? Yes. Yeah.

I think, I think there is a 24-hour channel thing. Like the, the family sort of like go to dinner one time at the house. And there is just like static TV on. Yeah.

And it's like, oh, what's that? Oh, it's just the, the blob blobs. Yeah. It's, you know, it's the, the static and they're just like, what was that?

Oh, oh, you're saying, make it another comment about the news on again. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

It's just weird. Yeah. And it's, it's, it's one of those. It's kind of like that Doctor Who episode or like, I think there's a few episodes of the Twilight Zone that are like this, where it cuts to the satellite and the sky actually being aliens.

Yes. And like there's loads of families all across and sort of Cang and Kodos from the Simpsons at the end of it all. Just like, ah, yes. One day all of the houses will have a 24 hour news cycle.

And not just on their TVs, but on their phones as well. Do you want to be able to escape a screen? People will just be scrolling through news, scrolling and scrolling to their doom. That's, that's the film.

This is why it's so difficult to talk about this stuff because, or write about this stuff because there isn't an easy answer to it. No. And usually in a story where you want an easy answer as to how you get sold at. You did have a massive grin on your face when you asked me how it ended.

It was like, I don't know fucking clue. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

Like, how do you stop the poisoning of a society that's addicted to information, Tom? Yeah, yeah. That and that and sort of the dopamine of watching TV. Like, it's, yeah, it's uncontrollable.

Yeah. It's it doesn't end well. No, it doesn't end well. Yes, you just have to, you know, touch grass.

That's how you do it. Yeah. Touch grass. Go for a walk.

Yeah. Raw dog plane flights. Stop paying attention to it. And then when you see one thing, try and do something about it.

Yeah. One thing. Cue the thing. Yeah.

One thing. Stop being terrified of everything and start being active about a thing. Yeah. But, um, I don't know.

Just gonna shut it up. I'm gonna cut this out. Yeah. Social, social-conscious thing this movie.

Yeah. It's a very conscious message in which we just, we don't know. We don't know. But, in fact, that's how it ends.

Yeah. We press pause as the credit roll, come out into the screening and go, we don't know. Yeah. Like, honestly, we just film this and we're just like, we don't really know how to end it.

Yeah. Go home, everyone. Yeah. Try and not get sucked into the news of it all, I guess.

Do you know what I think happens, Tom? Yeah. I think I know what this is all about. Mm.

I think that it's a little bit, they live. I was thinking they live, yeah. The one family, the terrestrial family, kidnaps the satellite family and takes them on a camping holiday. Yes.

Right? Away from the TV. And there, they try to do something to sort of like, stop them and eventually they make them see. They take them, they're hiding in bushes, looking at this satellite TV company, like, you know, bouncing point away.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. The point of which it's all broadcast from. They get the telescope out, they're looking up at the thing, they're like proving to them that these are aliens, beaming stuff into your brain, right? Mm.

And then the aliens find out. Yeah. They come down. They, they're like, these people are like, hold up in a, in a, in a scout hut.

Yeah. In the middle of a ranger station. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And they're like, they make their thing, they go to ground, they go into hiding.

And we cut forward in time. Yeah. To them, stealing hiding. Mm.

Like, or the search for the family goes on. There's a little bit of that. Well, this is the thing, the 24-hour news cycle is after, is after this family now. But in order to do the research.

After Matthew Robberich. In order to do the research, start. Yeah. Matthew Robberich, the terrestrial family.

Yeah, yeah. We're just going back to Daintebito and Matthew Robberich. Yeah, yeah. So, it's the cast of Deck the Halls.

In order to do the research, in order to prove this stuff, Matthew Robberich had to install a satellite on his own house. Yeah. Right? He doesn't, he's like, nobody's watching it, but I'm going to make sure that I can, I can tune in to see what they're really doing.

Yeah, yeah. So he's done all this sort of business. He's a radio scientist. Yeah.

And he takes them out to Jodro Bank is where they go. He's a American family. He's like, we shoot at a Jodro Bank. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

Yeah, yeah. Well, whatever it is, it's like, you know, a radio task. Yeah. That he takes them out to show them the break-in.

We take them to the radio telescope at the end of GoldenEye. Yeah, one is falling apart. One of them destroys. Yeah.

But, yeah. Still under it. Yeah. But yeah, he takes them there, right?

But the houses still sit in that town with two satellites on them. Yeah. We see news broadcast we're still looking for. Two over two years have passed, which is two families went missing in love over our right?

Authorities are still looking for any sign of them. Yeah. And another family, another two families have moved in to these houses. Or being shown around these houses.

And the person, the very well put together as a agent, is like, and these both of these houses come equipped, as you can see, with satellite television. And like, they're selling the house on. Yeah. Like, despite these families being missing for two years, they're just taking the house and they're selling them on.

And they already come up at every house on the road, has satellite television. These two families have been spared because they've gone into hiding. Yeah. But everyone else has a, it's gotten worse.

Yeah, it's very day-lifts, really. Yeah, except at the end. They don't show everyone. Yeah, the thing doesn't blow up.

And there isn't a weird sex scene. Yeah, there isn't a weird sex scene in which the aliens just are like, what's up, baby? Like, it's so weird. It's just an impending...

Tom, yeah, I had a bit trouble with this week's title post. You're the person who likes UFO movies on this podcast. Yeah, yeah. Like, you know, you're scared of alien invasion.

Yes, that is a fear I have. Yeah. That is a real fear. The possibly one of the most irrational fears.

War in the world really fucked you up as a kid. War in the world really did really fit me up, despite the fact that I've consumed most of the War of the Worlds versions that have come out. Yeah, it fucked you up in a sort of fascination way. Yes.

Yeah, yeah, but also... Terrified fascination. Yeah, I have recurring nightmares that is just War of the Worlds. Yes, but there's nothing you can do.

Yeah. Yeah, the... The... The misbalance of power in that War of the Worlds.

Is what scares me more than anything. Yeah, your phone movies. You could say I'm the UFO guy. You're the UFO guy.

This podcast. Yeah, the podcast in which we talk about unlikely things. Yes. The things that you might say never happened.

Yeah, never happened. But we claim that they did. Oh, they do. Yeah.

And the UFO guy. Yes, yeah, yeah. I'm also the Paula's dead guy. Yep.

The... Those are the two main conspiracy. Yeah, they get one. No, no, you're not really into conspiracy theories and...

No, I'm... I mean, I like him as much as the next person. Yeah, same actually. Like, I mean, like, I'm not one of those people who's like, don't get the vaccine.

No, no, I'm saying that you like them. I'm not saying you believe them. I'm saying you like them. That is a good...

You're a connoisseur. I'm a conspiracy theory connoisseur. Yeah, whereas I like them as much as the next person. Yeah, yeah.

I think they're fine. All behind quite a lot of conspiracy theories is fascinating. Yes, it is. It is absolutely bonkers.

Like, wouldn't you love to live in a world where... Like, all this shit actually happened. Whereas my... My...

brain, unfortunately, goes to that same place that, like... The reason I'm so derisive of game theory, the YouTube channel, the map pat stuff, is because... Like, my brain works like that anyway. And I don't find it insightful at all for someone to say it.

Yeah, yeah. Oh, could this exist in this or the universe? Ooh. Yeah.

You know, is this a reference to that thing? Ooh! It's like the Disney Star Wars explaining everything that's... Yeah.

...that happened to every single character ever. It's the solo of Star Wars story of theories. Yes, yeah, yeah. My brain does that anyway.

It tries to make everything fit in a single idea anyway. But, like, because of that, like, I'm your person who's like... I was like, can we just... My brains.

Where were you at, moose? Oh, that's why, in the title post. Yeah. I decided that the UFO from ET was designed by Wallace.

I didn't get that. But I don't think I read that. I saw a grand day out. Yeah.

The post featured a grand day out and ET. Yeah. And I was like, well, ET's a UFO. A grand day out, I guess, could be a UFO movie.

What I'm saying is, like... It's a very... Scroll up. It's right on the screen behind you, Tom.

Yeah. The designs of the two ships are quite similar. They are very similar. They both look like eggs.

ET's ship and the Red Rocket from a grand day out. In Rocket, yeah. Well, both have... It's strange because both Wallace and Grande out and ET both have sort of strange kind of horror to them.

Yeah. So with ET, there is this element of sort of this waddling idiot who goes around... Yeah. And you don't quite know what his agenda is.

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like, for the first half of the movie, you don't... ET's gonna be dying. Until he says ET, phone home.

You don't know what his agenda is. What are you trying to do? I want to make sure people know that that's what I'm going from. Yeah.

Because ET famously has an agenda. Yeah. He wants to go. He wants the phone home.

Yeah. And it's the same with the cooker from the grand day out. No, I watched the grand day out not too long ago because they did a new Wallace and Grandmott movie, didn't they? Yeah.

It was incredible. Yeah. So I watched all the other ones. I forgot how flipping terrifying that...

Yeah, like the... The cooker on the moon is. They do a lot of that. Like, they do that very well with feathers McGraw, with that cooker with the gnome from the...

The new one. The new one, yeah. And then they've called something gnome. Yeah, I can't remember what it's called.

Robonome. Fear and gnoming and lust. Yeah, yeah. Yeah, they do do that.

They have this... The reason they're protagonists are quite scary is that you don't really know why they want what they want. Yeah. Yeah.

I think with... Fosmograw, it's quite simple because he doesn't talk. But also, you know that he's evil. Yeah.

With the cooker. There's something odd like ET. There's something oddly sympathetic. Totally.

You see him watching them skiing. Yeah. And like, he's like... Oh, dreams about skiing.

Yeah, yeah, yeah. That's it. But Wallace does that, right? Like, Wallace does skiing as well.

No, they don't. No, no, they just play football. Oh, they play football? Yeah.

Yeah, I remember him. And he's like, oh, they came from Earth. Yeah. I want to go skiing.

I want to go skiing. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.

What cooker doesn't? What how sort of light does it want to go skiing? Yeah. When you describe the ET as a waddling idiot, I was like, yeah, I guess Wallace is a bit like that.

I mean, yeah, Wallace is a waddling idiot. But like, the cooker. Yeah. That draws you in with its sympathy.

And then when it's clawing into the rocket, you're like, this is actually quite terrifying. It's terrifying, yeah. And I was like, oh, no, no. It's like...

Like, if Terminator just wanted to go skiing, it's like that. Yeah, it's like... It's like it just wanted to get into your rocket. Yeah, yeah.

You wanted to get into your house to be there. I feel like it's unstoppable monster. It's trying to kick down your door to get in. And you're like bracing the door, you're barring the door.

And then when it gets in, it just sits down on the sofa and watches like X Factor. Yeah. And then when it gets in the oven, it's like, oh, shit. This is actually quite scary.

Yeah. And then, like, to the point now where I did write an article, or it's somewhere on WordPress, where I wrote about how scary it is, and this blew up overnight. Like, loads of people read this article and comment on it just like, oh my God, yes. Like, I totally agree.

And I get the feeling that this might also have that with the cooker from a granny. Yeah, you should do another one. Yeah, you should do another one. Yeah, just how terrifying is the cooker from a granny?

Yeah, you should make that your niche. Yeah, man who writes about how terrifying almost everything is. I mean, I love crap. I was going to the same place.

Look, look, crap, that niche carved out years ago. Yeah. Man, rucks about terrifying everything is. Yeah.

So, you know, they've been looking for a success of the Lovecraft for a while. I'm not writing about giant beings of cosmic proportions. I'm just writing about waddling idiots. One thing, one thing, one thing, one thing, one thing, it's why they're so terrifying.

That's my Necronomic one. That's the title I've seen. What? Why that's so tough.

Oh, it's good. Yeah, I think that Wallace designed E.T.'s spaceship. Or at least E.T.'s spaceship is based on Wallace's design. I don't think it is.

I think it is. Well, Wallace came after E.T. In running order. As in the release of the movie.

Oh, yeah, okay. You know, when's a grand day outside? We don't know. Like, look at his jumper.

Well, that's the thing about Wozing-Gromit. It's very anachronistic, isn't it? Yeah. It could be.

All of them could be set in the 60s. He's in the space race. Yeah. You know?

No one's ever been to the moon in a grand day out. Exactly. Half made left a cooker there. Someone's been.

Someone's been Tom. Someone's been left a cooker there. Are you saying Wozing-Gromit and Grand-A-Out is our faked moon landing? Well.

It's very clear that it's a faked moon landing. Well, I know what I'm saying is that someone's been to the moon. If I'm going to get a game theory on this on this shit. Wallace didn't put that cooker on the moon.

Right? It was just there. Right? It was just there when he got there.

Yeah. Meaning, someone has been to the moon. Someone's been to the moon before. Now.

What else do we know? We know that there's a connection between the design of Wallace's rocket and E.T. which happens in the 80s. Hold on, I'll get the corkboard.

Right? Okay. Where else do we see E.T. In Star Wars?

Yeah. Yeah. So who? The Phantom Menace.

Who might have been to the moon? That's right. The Mandalorians. The Mandalorians?

The Mandalorians dropped past another oven. Yeah. And dropped off a baby Yoda. Because that happened a long time ago.

It did. They dropped off a baby Yoda. Right? And that baby Yoda had to disguise it somehow.

Okay. So you're saying baby Yoda's the cooker? I'm saying baby Yoda's is grommet. I say grommet's a baby Yoda.

No, both got weird ears. Yeah. Exactly. There you go.

And that's why he's so good at things is because he's using the force. And that's just a theory. A shit theory. Properly.

Out there. But that's my conspiracy theory. That's my conspiracy theory. That's my conspiracy theory.

Homegrown. Yeah. I really like the concept of someone flight-tipping on the moon. I just want to drop this oven off.

It's faulty. He's going to go skiing. Yeah. He keeps booking flights to Switzerland.

Fucking drop it on the moon. Yeah. I'm going to drop it on the moon. Like speaking of flight-tipping in space.

That's what Elon Musk does. Yeah. He sent a car up there. Yeah, he did.

He's getting rid of that. Yeah. Just that's a small space truck. And when left to itself on a long battery might develop dreams of trying to ski in the thing else.

Yeah, definitely. That guy he put in the car. Yeah. There was a conspiracy theory that there was a body in the boot with that car.

Was that? Yeah. You know how to be a good way of getting rid of one? It would.

It would. In front of everyone's eyes. Yeah. Yeah.

Crazy. That's a UFO in it. Well, I guess it's identified. But yeah.

Yeah. Identified flying. If it came to Earth and someone was looking. Is that Tesla?

Coming back down. Why is there a corpse in the boot? You can see it from that far. It's a big corpse.

It's like chained up but the boot's going to open. Yeah. That is the image that Cowboys and aliens just wanted to get. Yeah.

But just made it weird. I didn't see that movie. I didn't think anyone did. Like I went to see it and it was just terrible.

It was really bad. Whereas no, got everything right. Like basically just was Cowboys and aliens. Yeah.

Like bang on what you want from that kind of movie. Yeah, but like it meant something and it wasn't like it wasn't very genre Western. It wasn't cowboy as such. No, no.

I mean it's a Western in a way. Yeah. It's just sort of like yeah, it's just fascinating. Yes.

It's got a lot of rich. It's modern. It's yeah. It uses it's iconography like really well.

I mean, it is kind of just the movie signs. You've seen that. Like, hmm. No, I always get mixed up between signs and the happening.

Oh, right. You've seen that happening. Well, signs is genuinely an all right movie. Is that got?

Mel Gibson and... You've got the country. No. No.

That's the Mothman prophecies. What? There's something with prophecies or like signs or like something that's got Patrick Stewart. No, don't.

No. No, it's Moth Gibson, Joaquin Phoenix in signs and basically it's just aliens in the fields. That's it. But yeah, that's got a genuinely terrifying moment which I'm pretty sure everyone who's seen it will attest to where it's just sort of like, it's Joaquin Phoenix.

Yep. For some reason he's under the stairs watching this TV. Yeah. And he's watching a news report on like a...

Joaquin Phoenix in teenage mode. No. No, no. He's like post-clally-a-s, so he's quite old.

And he's watching this news report on like this footage of an alien turning up at a kid's birthday party. And it is terrifying. There's one scene that's absolutely terrifying. Yeah.

That and there's another scene where he's running through a Fittel Mel Gibson I think running through a field. He trips over and like he shines a light. He shines a light and then just this leg disappears through the reads. It's incredible.

Like the film itself, not great. Yeah. But there's some moments of pure genius in it which is like, it's the same with any... ...chow in the movie where it's like, okay, right.

It's good, but it's boring as hell. Yeah. Yeah, that's another great... No, basically takes...

...because like no pad a load of sort of like meanings that come round, but it's all sort of in the background. Whereas signs is like, like there's a sign from God. Right. Okay.

It's like super broad. Yes. Like no piece is all about small social, like meanings about the drive for humans to like domesticate things around the world around them. Yes.

And where that puts them, when you do tame nature, like how that makes you put you higher than the people around you. Well that, and the thing I was thinking about when I related to signs, because signs had a bit where like Mel Gibson's wife died in the past as a flashback to her. Yeah. Just saying swing away to his brother or swing away.

And like Mel Gibson as a ex-priest doesn't know what this means. It's like what's going on? What's going on? Where they realize that the aliens are allergic to water.

Right. And Joaquin Phoenix is stood by a glass of water with a baseball bat. And Mel Gibson just goes swing away. Right.

Okay. Right. That's dumb. That doesn't mean anything.

It doesn't mean anything. It's really dumb. But nope gets it bang on when they're, when at the beginning of the movie, their dad dies by a coin that lodges through his skull. Yeah.
