DEMENTIA and Elder Care
from The Brain Love Podcast · host Dr. Delvena
Dementia affects millions of people and is more common as people grow older (about one-third of all people age 85 or older may have some form of dementia) but it is not a normal part of aging. Dementia is the loss of cognitive functioning — thinking, remembering, and reasoning — to such an extent that it interferes with a person's daily life and activities. Some people with dementia cannot control their emotions, and their personalities may change. Dementia ranges in severity from the mildest stage, when it is just beginning to affect a person's functioning, to the most severe stage, when the person must depend completely on others for basic activities of daily living, such as feeding oneself. ARE YOU READY TO TAKE THE COUCH? I am interviewing Corlette Deveaux, CEO and founder of the Deveaux Group. They are hosting a virtual seminar in February on how to open an Assisted Living Facility. We also discuss dementia, its many challenges and much more. HERE'S INFORMATION ON CORLETTE'S VIRTUAL SEMINAR: It’s a two-day virtual seminar held on 2/8-2/9/2023, "How to Open, Operate and Grow an Assisted Living Facility". We have a number of speakers including Keith Gibson from the Alzheimer's Association, Elio Patino from AARP, Avonelle Greene from Simply Healthcare Insurance, and Primary Care Physician, Dr. Michelle Powell. The seminar will be twofold: data on Advances in Therapy for the cognitively impaired, treatment options and caring for our aging family members and friends, learning about the explosive growth of the senior industry and how to capitalize on it and build economic wealth.
