▶ 首先，信徒被稱為門徒。『門徒』一辭在福音書和使徒行傳裏常常使用，但在書信裏完全沒有用到。〔在〕馬太五章一節…基督在山上坐下，祂的門徒（不是那些群眾）到祂跟前來，作祂的聽眾。…聚集在祂周圍的群眾是外圈，但祂的門徒是內圈。這些門徒是猶太信徒。然而，當他們在山上聽國度憲法的頒佈時，不是猶太人的代表，乃是新約信徒的代表。馬太二十八章十九節，主耶穌告訴祂的門徒要去，使萬民，就是外邦人，作主的門徒。這就是說，萬民要悔改成為門徒。所以，猶太和外邦信徒都是門徒。（新約總論第五冊，八○頁。）
