Diana from Honduras : Learning about Tasmania at a bottle shop
from 177 Nations of Tasmania · host Mark Thomson
It would be an understatement to say that there aren't many Hondurans in Tasmania. As of latest count, there were 3 Hondurans in Tasmania. Two of them are Diana and her husband . Coming from a country that is heavily influenced by the US, she and her husband wanted to gain experience in a different English-speaking country and have a bit of an adventure. Her husband was also keen to settle in a place with four seasons...though perhaps Tasmania "overdelivered" in this regard ! Although Diana's background is in community services, her first job was at a bottle shop in Hobart, which gave her a unique induction into Tasmanian culture and people. During the first lockdown in Hobart , she was surprised to find that bottle shops were considered an "essential service" and she was able to observe some noticeable cultural differences from what might be expected in Honduras.
