Did Lindsay Clancy's Doctors Even Know What She Had?

from True Crime Today | Daily True Crime News & Interviews · host Real Story Media

Lindsay Clancy is standing trial in Plymouth, Massachusetts, for the deaths of her three young children. Her defense centers on postpartum psychosis. The prosecution says her actions that day were deliberate and planned.Psychotherapist Shavaun Scott, author of Night Bird, walks through the clinical reality with Tony Brueski. The conversation starts with what the public gets wrong — and most of the public gets it wrong. Baby blues affect the majority of new mothers and resolve on their own. Postpartum depression is a clinical mood disorder affecting roughly one in seven. Postpartum psychosis is a psychiatric emergency affecting one to two women per thousand births. These are not the same illness at different volumes. Psychosis involves a rupture from reality.Lindsay's providers allegedly charted intrusive thoughts when she was reporting a male voice commanding her to harm her children. Those two presentations carry completely different clinical weight. After the killings, a forensic evaluation diagnosed her with Bipolar I — a condition her providers had considered but never confirmed. Antidepressants prescribed for the wrong diagnosis can trigger the very psychosis the defense is now building its case around.Shavaun explains the spectrum, where the line between depression and psychosis falls, and why a woman in psychosis can build snowmen with her kids in the morning and be catastrophically disconnected from reality by that evening.Tony Brueski and psychotherapist Shavaun Scott discuss postpartum psychosis and the Lindsay Clancy case.Join Our SubStack For AD-FREE ADVANCE EPISODES & EXTRAS!: https://hiddenkillers.substack.com/Want to comment and watch this podcast as a video?
