Dr. Fredriksen completed her post-doctoral training at a private practice in the Boston area, where she focused on autism, genetic disorders, learning disorders, and attention and executive functioning in a pediatric population. She has published several articles in peer-reviewed journals and presented at national and international conferences. Dr. Fredriksen lectures to parent groups and professional organizations.Dr. Yael Rothman spent a year in Cambridge, United Kingdom, doing research focused on autism spectrum disorder and tuberous sclerosis complex. Dr. Rothman completed her postdoctoral fellowship at Children’s Hospital in Washington, D.C.  Dr. Rothman has been involved in clinical research, with a primary focus on autism spectrum disorders. She has presented at several national and international conferences, published more than a dozen articles in peer-reviewed journals, and given lectures to parents and educators.ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder):-Refers to difficulty related to focusing and sustaining attention, inhibiting impulses, and restlessness or hyperactivity.-Diagnosed based on a combination of difficulties impacting functioning across multiple environments.-Different presentations include primarily inattentive, primarily hyperactive-impulsive, or combined.-Girls are often underdiagnosed, especially those with the inattentive presentation, leading to misdiagnosis or missed diagnosis.Importance of Children Knowing Their Diagnosis:-Provides understanding and empowerment, reducing negative self-attributions.-Facilitates self-advocacy and helps in navigating educational settings with necessary accommodations.-Helps children recognize their strengths and challenges, fostering a sense of belonging and community.Challenges in School Settings:-Need for educators to recognize diverse learning styles and provide appropriate accommodations.-Advocacy for children's needs and accountability from educators to support academic success.Book: "Different Thinkers" authored by Dr. Fredriksen and Dr. Rothman, aimed at educating elementary-age children about ADHD and other neurodevelopmental conditions.
