दिग्भ्यः नमस्कारार्पणम्

आश्रमे गुरुः प्रतिदिनं प्रातः अष्टसु दिक्षु नमस्कारं करोति स्म । तत् दृष्ट्वा कश्चन शिष्यः अष्टानां दिशानां नमस्कारस्य उद्देशम् अपृच्छत् । तदा सः सर्वाः दिशः किं किं तत्त्वं सङ्केतयन्ति इति वदति । दिग्भ्यः नमस्कारार्पणम् एवं विशिष्टेन उद्देशेन भवति इति ज्ञात्वा इतः परम् अहमपि दिशः नमस्करिष्यामि इति अवदत् शिष्यः ।(“केन्द्रीयसंस्कृतविश्वविद्यालयस्य अष्टादशीयोजनान्तर्गततया एतासां कथानां ध्वनिप्रक्षेपणं क्रियते”)In the ashram, the Guru offered salutations every morning to the eight directions. Seeing this, a disciple asked the purpose of bowing to all directions. The Guru explained that each direction symbolizes certain principles, and salutation to them is done with a special intent. Understanding this, the disciple said: “From now on, I too will bow to the directions.”
