Discard This and Experience Peace [Monday, #298]

from RETREATING WITH GOD · host Jon Fugler FRESH FAITH 24/7

We’re all familiar with the parable of the prodigal son.  As a refresher, this was the rebellious kid who decided he had just about enough of his father and marched off with his share of the inheritance.  I’m not sure if his mother was still living, but I can imagine the hurt she felt with her son leaving.  After a season of prodigal living (prodigal means “wasteful”), the son was out of money, out of bounds, out of friends and certainly out of his mind. But it's not the prodigal we'll be looking at today. We'll take a look at his brother, who had an envy problem. Join me on today's audio devotional. KEY PASSAGE: James 3:13-17 NIV Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from heaven but is earthly, unspiritual, demonic. For where you have envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice. But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure; then peace-loving, considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.  RESOURCES: Take the Free PERSONAL SELF-ASSESSMENT.
