Nancy advises her to stick to a simple script and let the other person know that they are being heard even if you disagree with them. Nancy also says to Leigh that if someone is ranting to her and she feels overwhelmed it is OK to stand up for herself and make sure this person can't clutter her mind with a toxic mindset. Barbara's first loss was at 15 when her father passed away of lung cancer which led her to seek comfort in drugs, drinking, and boys. In her early years she became pregnant which led her to having two abortions. She then gave birth to her son Keven. At a young age, Keven felt disconnected and awkward and was diagnosed with severe anxiety. One day, Barbara's life changed when Keven committed suicide while she went downstairs. To honor Keven's legacy she wrote a book to show what depression and suicidal thoughts look like and support others through the same thing.
