Un 02 de enero de 1726 fallecía el compositor italiano del período barroco DOMENICO ZIPOLI. Nacido en la Toscana, Zipoli estudió música bajo el mecenazgo de Cosme de Medicis para posteriormente ampliar su formación en Nápoles, Bolonia y Roma. Fue contemporáneo de figuras como Antonio Vivaldi, Doménico Scarlatti y Tomaso Albinoni. Llegó a ser organista de la Iglesia del Gesú y publicó la primera edición de sus sonatas gracias a un presunto apoyo económico de María Teresa Strozzi, princesa de Forano. Zipoli ingresa a la Compañía de Jesús para viajar a Sudamérica y convertirse en misionero, dada la fama musical y religiosa que tenían las reducciones jesuitas. Abandona Roma e ingresa al noviciado de la provincia del Paraguay (1717), donde estudia filosofía y teología. Allí compuso música destinada a las misiones jesuitas establecidas entre los indios guaraníes y chiquitos, en territorios actualmente pertenecientes a Paraguay, Argentina, Uruguay y Brasil. Tras la expulsión de la Compañía de Jesús de los territorios de la monarquía hispánica (1767) desaparece buena parte del repertorio de Zipoli, el que sólo llega a redescubrirse en el siglo XX en Bolivia gracias a los hallazgos de Robert Stevenson, Samuel Claro y Hans Roth.
