Louis Messina, MD, Chief, Division of Vascular & Endovascular Surgery at UMass Memorial Health Care and Vice Chair for Research, Department of Surgery, is Professor of Surgery at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. He maintains clinical interests in carotid and lower extremity arterial occlusive disease, complex aortic and renal/ mesenteric disease, thoracic outlet syndrome, and pediatric vascular reconstruction. Dr. Messina is a graduate of the State University of New York, Downstate Medical Center in Brooklyn. He completed both his surgical residency and vascular surgery fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco, CA, and completed a two-year research fellowship at the Cardiovascular Research Institute in San Francisco.   Andres Schanzer, MD, is a vascular surgeon at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester, MA.Dr. Schanzer performed the first implantation in the United States of an investigational branchedendovascular graft. The new branched endograft differs significantly from standard endografts because its unique design allows for the maintenance of blood flow to vessels originating off of the aneurysm. This advance enables surgeons to treat a broader spectrum of patients with this minimally invasive technique. Dr. Schanzer graduated in 2000 from New York University School of Medicine in New York, New York. His residency was completed at UC Davis Medical Center in Sacramento, CA, where he was the chief resident in general surgery. Dr. Schanzer’s first fellowship was in a clinical effectiveness program at Harvard University School of Public Health, followed by his John Homan’s Vascular Surgery Fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He is board certified in both general surgery and vascular surgery.
