DR XOLANI MKHWANAZI - FORMER CHAIRMAN OF BHP BILLITON SOUTHERN AFRICA

Dr Xolani Mkhwanazi is the South32 Non-Executive Director.-He serves as the Chief Executive Officer of Bateman Africa Limited.Dr Mkhwanazi served as Chairman of South African Operations at BHP Billiton Limited since October 2008.-He served as the Chief Operating Officer of Aluminium Southern Africa at BHP Billiton Limited from February 2005 to October 2008.-Dr Mkhwanazi is responsible for BHP Billiton’s southern African aluminium smelters, Hillside, Bayside and Mozal.More specifically, his role was to maximize the value and potential of these smelters by providing appropriate strategic direction and capitalising on commonalities between them, while also facilitating future aluminium opportunities in the region.He has experience in the Power, Engineering and Mining sectors.
