Drink From Your Own Well

Why does a man end up thirsty at someone else's well? It's rarely because temptation was too strong. More often, it's because he stopped tending his own.After two days of what to run from, Christian now examines what Solomon tells his son to run to: his own cistern, his own well. In the ancient world, a well wasn't a luxury. It was a man's survival, his provision, his protection, his portion. And a well split with the whole town runs dry for everybody. That's the picture of marriage Solomon paints: Not restriction, but provision.God didn't give you a wife to limit you. He gave her to you as a well that will never run dry if you tend it and never wander from it. But a well left unattended doesn't stay clean on its own. It has to be drawn from, maintained, and valued. A man who neglects his own well and then wonders why he's thirsty somewhere else isn't a victim of temptation. He's reaping his own neglect. You don't drift into faithfulness.
