Driven By Data and Faith

from Business of the Beat · host Mean Ole Lion Media

Kendra talks with Alisia Ford (@alisiamford ) about Glory Skincare (@gloryskincare_). Glory’s mantra “We see the Beauty in Hue” is their acknowledgment of the skincare education and needs of women of every skin color. Alisia talks about her background in law and how frequent migraines resulting from chemicals in her skincare routine led her to search for alternative clean beauty products. She shares the faith-driven tenacity that lined her journey and purpose in building personalized, non-toxic skincare which omits the Toxic 20 ingredients. Glory’s formulations, testing and philosophy address the needs of women with melanated skin--still an under-served community.  We discuss Alisia’s process for recruiting an advisory board of medical advisors that includes dermatologists and psychiatrists who specialize in melanated skin and who value an integrative approach to mental health.  Lastly, Alisia shares the foundations of the mantras and affirmation that have become a manifesto of the brand, strategic marketing strategies, and new addition to her collection.    “I’ve worked for very large retail brands in the world and have learned what it’s like from a marketing and legal perspective. I really created Glory as an underserved consumer...I was experiencing the problem and I was like: ok, well, I’m going to be the one to fix it.”   “The vision for Glory came after much prayer...and I filled an entire stack of post-it notes. And so for me, Glory means not only beauty and splendor, but it’s also giving glory to God.”   “I’m so thankful for that period where I was just trying to figure it out. I think the space of that sort of tension where I was really not that happy created that moment for me to take that leap.”   “The research that I’ve done shows that 79% of Black women and women of color are underserved. They lack access to skincare, clean skin products and lack guidance around what products work for them. “   “I was very intentional about the people we work with and the marketing as well because they all have life experiences that can add to the richness of what we are building in Glory.”See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
