Duane Allman fue uno de esos músicos irrepetibles cuya luz brilló con una intensidad tan grande como breve. En apenas veinticuatro años dejó una huella que muchos artistas no alcanzan en toda una vida. Fundador y alma sonora de The Allman Brothers Band, Duane redefinió el lenguaje de la guitarra eléctrica, convirtiéndose en un referente absoluto del Southern Rock y en uno de los mejores guitarristas de la historia. Su dominio de la slide guitar fue revolucionario: un sonido líquido, expresivo, casi vocal, capaz de transmitir emoción pura en cada nota. Además de su trabajo con la banda, Duane fue un solicitado músico de sesión, dejando su sello en grabaciones de Aretha Franklin, Wilson Pickett, Boz Scaggs o Eric Clapton, con quien firmó momentos inmortales como su diálogo guitarrístico en “Layla”. Su carrera quedó truncada por un trágico accidente en 1971, pero su legado continúa creciendo, inspirando a generaciones de guitarristas y amantes del rock.
