A finales de agosto del año 2000, inspirado por un brote del conocido virus del Ébola, Jorge Laborda explicaba conceptos importantes sobre las proteínas del virus de una manera lo más imaginativa e higiénica posible. No dudaba en comparar la investigación sobre las propiedades de las proteínas del virus con la búsqueda de utilidad de los componentes habituales en un cuarto de baño. Aquella comparación, que podéis escuchar en el podcast hoy, servía para describir cómo se había descubierto la proteína causante de los efectos mortales del virus y abría las puertas a utilizar esos métodos para obtener una vacuna ¿Cómo están hoy las cosas con él Ébola? ¿Han servido de algo estas investigaciones de hace más de 20 años? Y bien, la respuesta es sí. En 2019 se aprobó una vacuna. La vacuna se desarrolló en relativamente poco tiempo y no es una vacuna de ARN, como las del coronavirus, sino basada en un virus recombinante, es decir, modificado por ingeniería genética.
