L'un de mes films préférés de tous les temps est “Citizen Kane”. Cela est d'autant plus vrai depuis l'étude de la vie de l'éditeur William Randolph Hearst (sur lequel le film était en partie basé) et de ses ruses pour construire un empire de l'édition et une marque pour lui-même qui vit encore près de 70 ans depuis qu'il a rejoint le choir invisible. Comme la vie de Hearst, Citizen Kane est autant un «comment ne pas faire» qu’une étude de «comment faire». Comme cette ligne Charles Foster Kane: “Si le titre est suffisamment gros, cela rend les informations suffisamment importantes” Les gens aiment se plaindre que les nouvelles sont biaisées, offensantes, etc. Mais les médias d'aujourd'hui ne sont pas fous de Hearst. Les gros titres scandaleux de ses journaux pendant la Première Guerre mondiale citant Kipling appelant à «l'extermination de toute l'espèce allemande» font que même les succès médiatiques les plus fous d'aujourd'hui ressemblent à des bouffées. Quoi qu'il en soit, voici le point: J’ai une série de vidéos où je passe pas mal de temps à parler des gros titres. Et, alors qu'il n'était pas Hearst (Gene avait beaucoup trop de classe), ses titres étaient plutôt «Hearstian» – dans le bon sens – pour la rédaction de réponse directe, à mon avis.
