El cáncer y la obediencia de los virus.

Hace alrededor de 20 años estaba de actualidad la modificación genética de los virus como herramienta terapéutica para tratar el cáncer. Lo que entonces era una propuesta se hizo realidad hace más de un lustro. Esta terapia se denomina "tratamiento antitumoral con virus oncolíticos" porque utiliza virus que causan la lisis o la disolución a de los tumores. La primera terapia con virus oncolíticos aprobada por la agencia del medicamento estadounidense, la FDA, en 2015, utiliza un virus herpes simple modificado y está indicado para la infección y destrucción de células de melanoma. Por el momento esta parece ser la única terapia con virus oncolíticos aprobada.
