Los violaba, los estrangulaba, los descuartizaba. Se masturbaba con sus entrañas y se comía sus cuerpos. Perforaba los cráneos de sus víctimas aún vivas para inyectar ácido en sus cerebros. Quería crear zombis obedientes que nunca lo abandonaran. Pero Dahmer no era un genio del crimen. Era un depredador que encontró un ecosistema donde sus presas no importaban. Sus víctimas eran jóvenes, la mayoría afroamericanos, asiáticos u homosexuales. La policía de Milwaukee no consideraba que esos crímenes merecieran una investigación a fondo. En una ocasión, la policía devolvió a un adolescente de 14 años a Dahmer horas antes de que lo matara.
