El telescopio espacial Fermi, lanzado en 2008 fue diseñado para detectar los fotones gamma generados por los blázares y otros fenómenos cósmicos violentos para calcular su energía y posición en el firmamento. Con los datos obtenidos durante sus años de observación, los científicos de la Colaboración Fermi-LAT, donde Alberto Domínguez es Coordinador del Grupo de Blázares y Núcleos Galácticos, han elaborado y publicado una serie de mapas que muestran la imagen completa de los fenómenos más violentos del Universo.
