Embaré Church
from Audio guide de Santos-SP · host Seectur-Santos
You are standing before one of the most well-known religious temples in Santos: the Minor Basilica of Saint Anthony of Embaré, popularly known as the Embaré Church. Inaugurated in 1945, the church stands out for its neo-Gothic architecture, with its tall towers, pointed arches, and colorful stained-glass windows that illuminate the interior. Located facing the beach, it has become one of the visual landmarksof the Santos coastline. The devotion to Saint Anthony, known as the "matchmaking saint," attracts faithful throughout the year, especially on June 13th, the date dedicated to the saint. In 1987, the church received the title of Minor Basilica, a recognition granted by the Vatican to its religious and historical importance. In addition to celebrations and masses, the space is a meeting point for the community and integrates the cultural and tourist landscape of the city.
