English Edition — Episode 29: Those Years We Grew Up with Accreditation
from 醫務社工不藏私 · host 胖妹 & 李さん
When you hear the word accreditation…does your heart shiver just a little?” Because that usually means:overtime.Stacks of documents. And digging out supporting evidencethat has been quietly buriedunder everyday chaos. Fine.Another year has passed. We’re older. Supposedly wiser. Let’s try to talk about accreditationwith maturity and reason. According to Taiwan’s Ministry of Health and Welfare,“Hospital accreditation has its necessity and value.”Its core purpose is to ensure patient safety, improve healthcare quality, and protect the public’s right to medical care. But here’s the question: Within the two main accreditation domains—“Management & Administration”and “Medical Care & Services”— Is medical social work truly visible? Are there indicators that genuinely reflect our professional value?Or are there criteria that unintentionally limit or misinterpret our role?Maybe we can examine how medical social work is “seen” in accreditation from several angles:📌 System LevelAre social workers formally embedded in institutional mechanisms?Do policies explicitly define our position?📌 Process LevelIs social work intervention standardized? Are there clear documentation systems and SOPs?📌 Documentation LevelDoes our professional work leave verifiable evidence? Because accreditation doesn’t measure“how much you actually did.” It measures whether what you didwas documented—clearly, systematically, professionally.📌 Outcome LevelWhat changed because of social work intervention? Can we articulate quality outcomes? So maybe this is what we need to work on: Turn invisible labor into institutionalized systems.Turn experience into processes and SOPs.Turn intuition into documentation and data.Turn case stories into measurable quality improvement outcomes. Accreditation may feel exhausting. But perhaps it also pushes usto clarify who we areand what we contribute. So friends—let’s keep growing.Let’s keep strengthening our profession. And yes…let’s survive the next accreditation cycle together.” 😄 Apple Podcast: Spotify: Share your thoughts on this episode here: https://open.firstory.me/user/cmcihfnnk06ig01xec5jf5a4w/comments Or drop me an email—tell me what color the ocean is today… (just kidding~) [email protected] We’ve also got a Facebook & IG page now, so don’t forget to like and follow!
