English Edition - Episode 3: When There’s No NHI: The Role of Medical Social Workers?

Medical social workers handle all sorts of issues inside the hospital—and sometimes even beyond. But one of the toughest challenges, and the ones that take the most energy, are cases without National Health Insurance coverage. These cases might include local citizens who let their NHI lapse (that’s usually manageable), foreigners who get into accidents while traveling in Taiwan (a bit trickier), or undocumented and runaway migrant workers (the hardest of all). In this episode, we’re putting our heart and soul into sharing what it’s like to face these situations—how we deal with medical problems, costs, and the complicated questions of discharge, placement, or even arranging someone’s return home.
