from Health Physio+ · host Arthromainpod

This 2025 study investigates the effectiveness of biceps tenotomy and tenodesis as a revision strategy for patients experiencing persistent pain after a successful rotator cuff repair. Researchers analyzed 88 individuals whose previous surgeries failed to resolve symptoms despite having healed rotator cuffs confirmed by imaging. The findings reveal that both surgical techniques significantly enhance shoulder function and provide substantial pain relief at a two-year follow-up. While clinical outcomes were comparable between the two groups, tenodesis was associated with a lower likelihood of the "Popeye" muscle deformity. Ultimately, the authors conclude that addressing the long head of the biceps is a safe and reliable solution for treating lingering discomfort in the absence of a new tendon tear.(D’Ascoli A, Giovannetti de Sanctis E, Bronsard N, Gauci M-O, Gonzalez J-F. Both isolated long head of the biceps tenotomy and tenodesis are effective for symptomatic rotator cuff repair revision. J Clin Med [Internet]. 2025;14(3):852.
