Ep 116 Interview Sessions with Matthew McConaughey [Academy Award Winner & Author of GREENLIGHTS]

from Always Better than Yesterday with Ryan Hartley | A Podcast for Heart Centred Leaders · host Ryan Hartley

#MatthewMcConaughey #Podcast #Interview  On episode 116 I am joined by Academy Award-winning actor and best-selling author Matthew McConaughey.  Matthew’s book Greenlights is up there with one of my favourites of all time and it was an honour to spend time with him discussing stories and experiences from his life.    Matthew is married and a father of three. He co-founded with his wife the just keep livin’ foundation in 2009 which helps at-risk high school children be better in their mind, body and spirit.   In 2019 Matthew became a professor of practice at the University of Texas, as well as the Minister of Culture for the University and the city of Austin. McConaughey is also a brand ambassador for Lincoln Motor Company, an owner of MLS soccer team Austin FC and the co-creator of his favourite bourbon on the planet, Wild Turkey Longbranch.   There is such wisdom in the book Greenlights and is testament to the depth Matthew went to connect to his life experiences. A life that has evidently been well lived thus far!  Be sure to get your copy of Greenlights, physical and audio – both are equally special in their own way.    In this episode you will hear:   04:15 Matthew David McConaughey introduces himself in a way only he can  06:20 Matthew’s Love Letter to Life - Greenlights   09:55 The power of the words “Don’t Half Ass It”   11:10 Jay Leno’s incredible advice to Matthew before his first time on his show    13:15 “It is what it is” and “it is what it will be” - how does Matthew account for both being true? Matthew 6:22  15:00 Forget unbelievable, give more credit to what is AWE-some  16:30 What a wet dream revealed to Matthew about being a child of God  19:30 “You gotta leave what you know to find out what you know”  20:50 What it means to be Man Enough  23:40 What LOVE means to Matthew McConaughey  28:00 What turning down $14.5. did for Matthew’s identity   31:50 the serendipity and full circle of the words ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT  34:20 Just Keep Livin’  38:15 Chasing our Hero and my heartfelt thanks to Matthew for words that changed my life   40:30 Always Better than Yesterday - that’s the ticket!  41:50 Culture is a vibe - What a Love Letter to Austin sounds like… (side note, be prepared to want to move to Austin immediately after listening to this!)  43:30 Just Keep Livin’ Foundation - we are going where we are needed but we are not able to be in every place we are needed  44:50 The legacy of Matthew’s fatherhood   45:30 Ladies of Tampa  47:20 Let’s create as many Greenlights as we can for ourselves and others - where the “I” meets the “We” Thank you for spending time with us.
