Ep 13: Real Life (Queer) Romance is WAY BETTER than the Movies

from Soften Up with Krystal Alexandria · host Soften Up with Krystal Alexandria

We were all sold a very fanciful, grand gesture-laden (not to mention solely heterosexual) perception of romance. It's this dreamy “something” that only happened to the chosen few and we were dependent on some man out there to decide one day to make romance a reality for us who longed for love beyond the ending credits of our favorite rom-coms. I remember what an impossible scenario it felt like to have real-life romance. It turns out true, lasting romance looks hella different than I was sold.As a person who thought they had to work really hard for someone’s love and attention, it is deeply healing to not have to.In today's episode, I share about:- the arc from my rom-com-obsessed 20's to my love drenched 40's (oh boy, did romance look SO different in real life!)- unlocking my queerness from deep within and how it really leveled up the quality of dates I was going on- how my wife and I took our absolute favorite romantic date and immortalized it as our engagement story (it's so dang cute omg)- realizing that the most romantic moments are the simplest ones and I'm not shy on sharing examples of those sweet momentsNo matter who you love, I hope you know you’re worthy of real-deal romance in your life. Let yourself dream up what acts of love would feel so good to receive from someone else. Try not to talk yourself out of it or let doubt ruin the fun. Let yourself want it. Let yourself tuck it away in your heart. Before you know it, you’ll be so happy you did when it starts to arrive in your life. Want more?
