Ep 14 - Don't Take the Bait

from Based Marriage Podcast · host Matt Sciba

Have you seen the movie Braveheart? Remember the scene when William Wallace and his men prepare for battle by taking carts loaded with barrels of oil to where the English will line up for the following day’s battle, and soaks their side with the oil? Sure enough, the next day, the English line up on the soggy side, just where William Wallace and his men planned. Wallace has his archers fire flaming arrows toward the English, and the English soldiers burst into flames. That’s kind of like what many wives do to their husbands by baiting him in to a fight. Many wives are so skilled and practiced that they can turn anything into a fight through defensiveness and deflection. For example, she’s making herself a sandwich, and you ask her if she’ll make you a sandwich too. She fires back, “YOU should be making ME a sandwich,” then launches into a tirade against you, bringing up a laundry list of supposed past offenses. You try to answer each one with logical responses, but she moves the goalposts onto another offense, and another, and another. Tune in to this episode to learn how to avoid the bait and shut down return fire so you can have a more peaceful and healthier marriage. This is a public episode.
