Mika Cali is a designer and artist based in New York, who uses her symbolic artwork to tell stories and  spread inspiration. She is a mother of two, and her children provide a continual drive to lead by example. As a divorcee, her experience and fresh start gave her the freedom to tap into her intuition and realize her dream of becoming an artist. In this episode we talk about her journey from the fashion industry to the art world, and her artistic process. By tapping into meditation, intuition and imagination, Mika Cali has created a symbolic visual language that is visually reminiscent of Keith Haring, and is rich in positive narrative. From there, she spent summers studying at Rhode Island School of Design, Central Saint Martins and the Fashion Institute of Technology until graduating from Parsons The New School for Design in 2006.  Mika’s current focus is painting, incorporating her favorite materials to work with including resin, found objects, weathered wood and rusted metal. Although her work has been influenced by many genres her symbols are unique. The meanings behind the symbols are almost always telling a story of strength, pushing boundaries, staying positive and maintaining balance. Her paintings started as messaging for herself – a hidden story in each piece that she could put on my walls as constant and encouraging reminders.
