BUT the ice image works anyway, as long as people are shoveling or pouring the ice and watching what happens to the brain, and if they feel the ice, then that’s wonderful, but not essential. Plus, of course, you can hear in your voice that something is not as deep as in might be, so that would be helpful for people to understand their own process if they have the same question.” Bio: Wendy Yellen, named one of the International Top 3 Transformational Experts in her field and bestselling author, supports people of heart and integrity around the world to live a full, passionate, successful, and unshackled life of love, awareness and compassion, without it costing them their soul. Wendy had a 100% full, 100% referrals, waiting list only private practice in psychotherapy in Houston, Texas. She closed her practice completely because she no longer believed in any of the traditional and non-traditional therapies she was certified in. Years later, when she was reintroduced to the father of Eidetic Imagery, Dr. Akhter Ahsen, she knew she had found the Holy Grail of transformational work and jumped back into working with people and transformation. Since then she has introduced thousands of men and women around the world to the evidence-based treatment of Eidetics. This practice, based on Ancient Greek knowledge and 21st Century science, uses the power of eidetic images to enable business people and creatives to unlock their full potential and remove the weight of old, often “unseen” vulnerabilities which have been holding them back. Rules Don’t try and control it In this example we talk about parents, but its not about history, its about the filters in our head that reflect ourselves It’s not about memory or recalling something, as the eidetic image is much deeper than that, and looking at what’s inside of us Eyes closed or open, and not recommended so it while driving it Wendy Yellen Bio Wendy Yellen, named one of the International Top 3 Transformational Experts in her field and bestselling author, supports people of heart and integrity around the world to live a full, passionate, successful, and unshackled life of love, awareness and compassion, without it costing them their soul. In this interview with Stephen Palmer, from my Your Pursuit of Purpose Interview Series, we dive into the three main reasons why: lack of clarity, old wounds and lack of technical skills. We dive into how purpose is in your DNA, but old wounds from growing up often stand in your way, either masking as lack of clarity or more likely, fear about really going for it. There is often a not good enough feeling that can obscure our purpose. Once we’ve become mindful about what gets in the way, we can make meaningful steps to living our purpose. I love how Stephen simplified meaningfully making money, as the overlap between what makes you feel good, and what people need. He also stresses you need an outside to understand your money making strengths, as it’s hard to “read the label of the pill bottle” from the inside. Bio Stephen Palmer is a New York Times bestselling author and a life purpose coach. He helps people discover the difference they were meant to make, and make a living doing what they love. He is the author of Manifest Destiny: Choosing a Life of Greatness. He also co-authored the New York Times bestseller, Killing Sacred Cows: Overcoming the Financial Myths that are Destroying Your Prosperity with Garrett Gunderson. Zach Mercurio is a speaker, author, and purpose and meaningful work consultant. In his first job out of college, “selling air” for a radio station, Zach found himself disillusioned with the working world, just living for 2/7 of the week – the weekend. A powerful conversation with an inspired taxi driver at a park in D.C. led him to question everything. He then left his job, took massive action and started searching for answers. Leading him down a path of helping others to discover and enact purpose. Instead of the question, “What’s my purpose?” Zach encourages people to ask, “How can I best serve others?” It’s important to concentrate on what your skills and strengths are to figure out how you can best serve. In addition, it is important to develop a purpose-led mindset, developing the daily habits to live purposefully. After all, purpose’s benefits come from practice, not just introspection. In addition to personal purpose, Zach focuses on organizational purpose. His focus is on optimizing and measuring the good we do in order to deliver the most efficient and beneficial outcomes. For over 8 years in 60 countries on 6 continents, he has investigated purpose, perspective, and how to most logically and effectively impact change. In this episode we talk about his podcast, IMPACTivism (Impact + Activism), his early travels that opened his eyes to the world, and the wide range of humanitarian work he has done. He explores how our intuition can lead us astray, our cognitive biases can steer us wrong, and provides actionable reccomendations for doing the most good. Highlights How Logan caught the travel bug and became addicted to novelty How meditation and inward reflection made him question his career motivations His initial aid work in Haiti where his service started, and his inquiry on effectiveness began How his podcast looks at the actions that can make us feel good versus the ones that provide the best results Asking the question, do I care more about how I feel about doing good or the measure of the outcome? Push decision making vs. Pull decision making Logan Sullivan Bio Logan Sullivan first moved abroad in college to study in Australia, then again in South Africa. Addicted to novelty, he then sought adventure volunteering in the Cape Town slums and on a solo backpacking trip through Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi. This love of travel evolved into a passion for service. Later through his work in Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Cambodia, Philippines, and Honduras, Logan investigated the dissonance between kindhearted intent and actual outcomes. After graduate studies in international law and non-violent popular struggle, Logan used persuasive reason to influence betterment beyond philanthropic systems. As the Regional Advocacy Advisor for a Nobel Laureate International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO), he advocated for a more effective humanitarian response in Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Turkey and Iraq. As the INGO Forum Coordinator/Representative in Nigeria he spoke on behalf of dozens of INGOs to the United Nations, Ambassadors, the Nigerian Government, and to the US Congress and Senate. He examined a fractured humanitarian system from a unique vantage point, and learned how to prioritize energy for influencing change. Now Logan has returned to Portland to share his findings through The IMPACTivism Podcast, a book, and speaking engagements. As a vegan and aspiring Effective Altruist, he has publicly pledged to donate 10% of his income for life, and 20% during the Trump presidency, to high impact humanitarian, animal welfare, and environmental nonprofits. In his free time to sustain joy, he climbs rocks and mountains, practices acrobatic yoga, started to build a tiny house on a 20-foot trailer, and wanders aimlessly into the woods in search of mystery. In this episode I speak with Arthur Woods, co-founder of Imperative. With a mission to enable everyone to uncover and apply their purpose drivers, Imperative sets out to help everyone realize their potential as employees and members of society. Currently two-thirds of the workforce is disengaged at work. This leads to high turnover and low job satisfaction. Arthur Wood’s story includes leaving a job at Google to answer his higher purpose, creating community and helping people realize their potential. While at Google he was unsatisfied with his position, so he worked nights and weekends, to create a philanthropic educational department at YouTube. He succeeded and that side job became full time. During this process of creating his job at YouTube, he realized so many other smart and talented people were in the exact same position he was in, unfulfilled, and wanted to find a solution to that problem. He was introduced to Aaron Hurst, founder of Taproot Foundation. Aaron introduced skill based volunteering to the market to take advantage of people’s talents at scale at Taproot. Both Aaron and Arthur felt like this volunteer work was important, but more important, was introducing this great sense of meaning people had volunteering and infusing that into their actual day jobs where they spent the majority of their time. The interview traverses all aspects of purpose, including, how to define it, myths arounds it, and how you can realize what drives your purpose. Arthur relays how Imperative works with company from starting with a boot camp, purpose leadership development, to piloting programs in corporations with management training and hiring practices. Ep 12 – Kerin Rose Gold – Artist, Designer and Entrepreneur
Kerin Rose Gold is an artist who designs bespoke eyewear and costume pieces for pop culture’s leading icons, runs an online business, A-Morir, and writes for Nylon Magazine. Rihanna, Lady Gaga, Missy Elliot and even Snoop Dog are among the many worn her pieces. We talk about her creative and academic childhood growing up in New York, her health struggles, and her evolution into a creative entrepreneur. She was encouraged as a child to explore all of her interests, creatively but never thought she could make a living as an artist. From her teenage years through early twenties, she suffered with ulcerative colitis, hindering her ability to live freely and causing severe pain on a daily basis. When a treatment finally worked in her early twenties, she was given a second chance at life. This led to an existential crisis, and a lack of satisfaction with her marketing job. She started thinking about her future meaningfully. Kerin reconnected with her creativity, and got a 3 day a week job at Patricia Field, a well known fashion boutique. One day she got a new pair of sunglasses, and added crystals for fun. When Kerin wore them into the store next day everyone freaked and loved them. Patricia Field started selling them, Mariah Carey wore them in a music video a few months later, and the rest is history. Outside of her art and business, she wants to help people by sharing her story, struggles and perspective. Highlights include: Her second chance at life with remission of her ulcerative colitis Best advice a boss has ever given her – take time to rediscover what it is that you love, and figure out how to make it your life How her sunglasses started to sell at Patricia Field How Rihanna became an advocate for her work Evolution as an entrepreneur Decision to not to scale her business Her definition of success, satisfaction and fulfillment Biggest piece for Missy Elliot “I’m better” featuring 36,000 crystals Design process from conception to delivery Her most popular Nylon articles Her tips for living a purposeful life Kerin Rose Gold Bio: Kerin Rose Gold has been pushing boundaries since 2009 with her luxury artisanal eyewear line A-Morir. As seen on the world’s biggest pop stars and sold in high-end boutiques across the globe, A-Morir sets itself apart with rebellious designs and impeccable, hand-crafted execution. Yet this trendsetting brand is just one outlet for Kerin’s irreverent and unique spirit. An upstart creator since childhood, this native New Yorker graduated with honors from NYU with a degree in Pop Culture History, linking her loves of art, music, and costuming while delving deep into the French existentialist concept of the “spectacle.” Kerin continues to connect far-flung creative dots in her adult career, whether designing the first women’s sneaker for SUPRA, starring in ad campaigns for Sebastian Professional (as their Visionary Brand Ambassador, leading to a glasses collaboration distributed in hundreds of salons around the world), writing a bi-monthly column for Nylon, or representing the US as Vogue Italia’s New Talent and Emerging Designer.
