In this episode, I'm with Natasha Rattu, Executive Director of Karma Nirvana. As a society, women's rights and issues have been especially prevalent in recent times. Natasha, as you'll hear, speaks on a topic that many of us may acknowledge once we hear the definition; honour-based abuse. Natasha Rattu is the Executive Director at Karma Nirvana leading the charity towards its strategic vision of ending Honour Based Abuse in the UK. Natasha is a recognised legal expert in family and criminal proceedings within the field of Honour Based Abuse and Forced Marriage. Commonly unrecognised, honour based abuse is a new concept to many and Natasha gives an in-depth explanation of what it really is, what stops victims coming forward and some of the assumptions around honour based abuse; leading to the ways that we, as a society, need to address it. Natasha shares a really impactful story of a lady who was unable to receive adequate care during the lockdown after coming forward, due to a lack of translators. An incredibly powerful example of the type of life that Nataha & Karma Nivarna are trying to change. We speak on the blocks and barriers for victims, COVID's effects on Karma Nivarna's work as well as the change in the number of calls that they're receiving, especially from children. Natasha's leaves us with some incredible insight into the work she does and her goals and aspirations for the next 10 years. I hope you enjoy the episode.
