The Michael Bay films were box office hits but only seemed to grow sour with the audience more and more over time, and did no favors for the Bumblebee spinoff or the first Bay-less live action attempt with Rise of the Beasts. Then, for the first time since the eighties, an animated film hit theaters last year.
