EP 17 | Young Dutt

Young Dutt is a rapper from Brooklyn, New York. He began writing music and rapping in 2018 when he was in college and in the Summer of 2020 released his first record "On Lock." Since then, he has released 8 other singles with a sound inspired by Brooklyn hip-hop and drill including the 2020 record “Back to Back” featuring Squidnice. We discussed how he first starting rapping after freestyling with friends on PS4. From there he went on to write and record songs at home before working with different studios and engineers. Heavily inspired by video games and movies such as Spider-Man and Star Wars, Young Dutt talked about how he implements those influences into his music, lyrics, and imagery. In 2021 after releasing “Jonas Quellington” Young Dutt experienced a substantial bump in streams and listens after his music began being featured on numerous twitch streams. His music has amassed over 55,000 streams on Spotify alone. Later on in the episode, we talked about his biggest influences which include artists like NLE Choppa and we talked about DIY recording and production. We went over the Beatstars App and marketplace and how he researches, finds, and licenses beats for his music. We talked about Beatstars contracts, finding beats on YouTube, and how Young Dutt hopes to interact with numerous twitch streamers throughout 2022 to help promote his music. We also talked about using Instagram as an A&R tool to try and solidify collaborations and how social media marketing for independent artists has evolved over time.
