Blkchrist from NYC Hip-Hop Collective Brokeland is a rapper, songwriter, and music producer from Brooklyn, New York. Born in Houston and relocating to NYC at two months old Blkchrist and I talked about Brokeland's inaugural east-coast tour. The group got to perform at numerous colleges such as Temple University and Sarah Lawrence College. We talked about when Brokeland first started and how Blkchrist formed it with friends he met attending LaGuardia High School in the late 2010's. Whats unique about NVLT is how they met. They originally met after wanting to put pictures from a Samsung corporate event to good use. After that they met their singer through dating app Tinder. A couple of members made a group tinder profile and their current lead singer Mary matched with the group. Throughout the pandemic they wrote songs and practiced by sending voice memos to each other through group chats and Snapchat. In this episode of my weekly podcast Miltrick Media I interviewed Country-Pop artist Sandra North. Sandra North is a California based Country artist and songwriter originally from Sweden. In 2020 she won the "Best Breakthrough Artist" award through the European publication and promotions company Boots of Europe. We talked about her debut EP "Long Time Coming" and what inspired that record. She revealed her behind the scenes process when it comes to songwriting, entering the studio, and what it was like growing up in Sweden. A few years ago she decided to move to the United States to pursue her music career full time. She broke down what inspired the music video for her recent singles "You" and "My Song." Later on in the episode, we discussed her time attending university for music business and her time spent working as a booking agent. In 2022, indie artists need to focus on numerous things at once like booking, management, and marketing in order to push their career forward. We talked about what it's like balancing all of that along with trying to work on recording new music. She revealed some upcoming tour dates as well as a festival appearance planned for Summer 2022. Uncle Zed (Jesse) is a full-time Content Creator, Twitch Streamer, and YouTuber. Before Uncle Zed became a twitch streamer he was working full-time as an EMT in New York City. We talked about how 4 years ago he entered the world of twitch streaming and we talked about what inspired that new career path. We discussed the business of twitch and how he sticks to a consistent weekly schedule which has resulted in him gaining 2,300 subscribers on Twitch as of March of 2022. We learned how a creator makes money on Twitch and what's most important when building an online community as a streamer. We touched on key points like how building a positive and welcoming community is what matters most and the importance of diversifying your content on social media in order to reach new people as a content creator. Social media marketing, entrepreneurship and his YouTube videos were discussed later on in the episode. Besides streaming he also creates unboxing videos of numerous collectors editions of video games. Last but not least we discussed the culture of twitch, how to create a successful career on the platform, and his new career as a frontman. Jeff Enrage is a Singer, Promoter, and Bartender from Staten Island, New York. He is most well known as the Frontman of New York City Hardcore/Crossover-Trash band Enrage. His career in the music industry dates back nearly 30 years when Enrage first formed in the late 80’s. Being inspired by Sunday hardcore matinees at the legendary CBGB’s and Brooklyn’s L’Amours the band was formed by childhood friends with Jeff and his brother Marco being the nucleus. They subsequently went on to release their first proper demo “Burning Within” with Josh Silver from Type-O Negative being the producer. Completely independent and through word of mouth, the bands first demo sold over 3,000 copies. Throughout the 90s the band played numerous iconic venues around NYC while championing Staten Island and DIY ethics. Throughout their career they were able to share the stage with bands such as Biohazard, Gwar, Hatebreed, Bad Brains, Life of Agony, Sick Of It All, and Type-O Negative. After the local success of “Burning Within” the band went on to record their Debut CD “Empty” which was produced by Noah Evans, who had previously worked with The Beastie Boys. In this episode Jeff and I talked about the full history of the band including when they started out booking their own shows and playing across Bay Street on Staten Island. We later discussed when the band got to play in Belgium and France and what that was like traveling to Europe to play music. We then talked about the history of the Staten Island and NYC music scenes, hardcore music, and the various shows Jeff hosts and promotes on Staten Island. Scott Magnus is a pop artist from Oldham, Manchester, United Kingdom. He creates indie, pop/rock, trap, and hyper-pop songs with powerful, introspective lyrics. Fresh off of the release of his new single “Don’t Take Away My Purpose” we talked about his life, upbringing, and the beginnings of his music career. March of 2020 is when he went full steam ahead with his music career and in 2021 he released singles “Diamond In The Rough,” “The Phoenix,” “Lone Wolf,” and “Break My Heart.” 2021 proved to be a successful year for Scott as his catalogue amassed 93,000 streams on Spotify alone. We talked about the lyrical inspiration for these songs and how he developed a musical partnership with UK producer Jack Tingey who has executive produced most of his songs so far. Scott has a hybrid style of music influenced by pop, rock, hip-hop, and hyper pop and we discussed his biggest influences and what made him want to pursue this style. We discussed how independent artists can market themselves in the current music industry and how Scott secured numerous press features for his music including from publications like Earmilk, Variance, Metal Magazine and Rolling Stone India. Last but not least, we discussed his upcoming 8 track EP “COMEBACK STRONGER” which is set to be released in April 2022.

Young Dutt is a rapper from Brooklyn, New York. He began writing music and rapping in 2018 when he was in college and in the Summer of 2020 released his first record "On Lock." Since then, he has released 8 other singles with a sound inspired by Brooklyn hip-hop and drill including the 2020 record “Back to Back” featuring Squidnice. We discussed how he first starting rapping after freestyling with friends on PS4. From there he went on to write and record songs at home before working with different studios and engineers. Heavily inspired by video games and movies such as Spider-Man and Star Wars, Young Dutt talked about how he implements  those influences into his music, lyrics, and imagery. In 2021 after releasing “Jonas Quellington” Young Dutt experienced a substantial bump in streams and listens after his music began being featured on numerous twitch streams. His music has amassed over 55,000 streams on Spotify alone. Later on in the episode, we talked about his biggest influences which include artists like NLE Choppa and we talked about DIY recording and production. We went over the Beatstars App and marketplace and how he researches, finds, and licenses beats for his music. We talked about Beatstars contracts, finding beats on YouTube, and how Young Dutt hopes to interact with numerous twitch streamers throughout 2022 to help promote his music. We also talked about using Instagram as an A&R tool to try and solidify collaborations and how social media marketing for independent artists has evolved over time. Plant Dad is a Singer-Songwriter from Baltimore, Maryland. Fresh off of the release of his brand new single “Del-Mar” he traveled up to NYC to participate in a couple of writing sessions with songwriters and producers. In this episode, we talked about his career beginnings and what made him want to pursue creating music. He reveals the inspirations for the name “Plant Dad” and how in 2021 he finally decided to venture out with a solo career and that’s where Plant Dad was born. We discussed his biggest influences and what he considers his genre to be. Plant Dad’s music is a combination of indie rock and indie pop. We talked about how we discovered each others pages through an independent music blog and different ways independent musicians can market themselves in the current music industry. Rayna Pajares-Held is a social media content creator. Born and raised in Brooklyn, Rayna has amassed nearly 200,000 followers on Tik-Tok channel @vintagequeen_1 through her various categories of short-form content. Makeup processes, transformations, singing videos, vlogs, and day in the life videos are among the many pieces of content she creates. After going viral in 2019 with a Billie Eilish inspired trend video Rayna’s account started to steadily grow. We talked about growing and creating content on Tik-Tok and social media in general. Rayna shared some of her process for creating content and marketing her channel. Rayna wanted to start creating content after being inspired by watching editing and lip-syncing videos on YouTube when she was younger. She was drawn to this career by watching positive feedback on videos and this is when she realized she wanted to pursue content creation. We went back and forth about our first YouTube channels when we were younger and Rayna described the different types of niches she has explored over the years. Later on Rayna talked about attending film school, and wanting to get involved in the film industry and having a passion for film production. We talked the importance of networking in the entertainment industry, creating schedules for posting content and how Rayna is gravitating toward creating more make-up content. Rayna discussed possibly getting involved with more songwriting and how she has a couple of original songs in the works. In this weeks episode of Miltrick Media, I sat down with Staten Island Comedian Jon Elias. Jon first got started with improv in 2007 while still in high school. They had an improv team that put on two shows a year. After graduation he started attending college in Philadelphia. During his time in school he got involved with improv around the city and later stand-up comedy. We discussed how Robin Williams is a huge influence to Jon and how after watching Robin Williams: Live in Broadway in 2007 he wrote his first batch of original material for a comedy set. He had three days to write three minutes. We talked about writing original material which he does both alone and with frequent writing partner Comedian Joe Naimoli. In November 2021, he performed at the NYC Arab American Comedy Festival at Gotham Comedy Club and we talked about performing after Ramy Youssef and what was going on through his head leading up to that performance. Josh Rabin is a comedian from Staten Island, New York. Matthew Barouch is a Singer-Songwriter and Guitarist from Staten Island New York. In Episode 12 of my weekly podcast Miltrick Media, we discussed his biggest influences and what made him want to become a songwriter. Matthew talked about his childhood and how his parents classic rock influences struck a chord with him when he was young and how he fell in love with numerous bands his parents enjoyed. Some artists that were impactful included Paul Simon, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Carole King, Van Morrison, and Oasis. When he was 19, Matthew took a songwriting course in college that really flipped a switch and made him want to pursue songwriting. This class made him realize he can pursue songwriting and it all felt natural and organic. Later on in the episode we talked about his band Above The Sun, a rock band from NYC which perform in the tradition of the great rock bands of the 1960s and 1970s, combined with pop-punk influences of the 1990s. We talked about their debut album "Excitation" as well as the music videos for "Empty Words" and "Dumb. We discussed how in late 2020 after months of working with industry relations company Big Noise, the band’s single “Empty Words” ended up on the ballot for “Best Rock Performance” and “Record of the Year" Grammy nominations. Joe Naimoli is a Stand-Up Comedian from Staten Island, New York. He got his start in comedy in 2012 and has had experiences as an actor and a writer as well. Donny Teachout is a host, rapper, comedian, and poet from Staten Island, New York. Originally from Brooklyn, Donny talks about his upbringing and what got him started as an entertainer. Donny hosts the weekly Table Open Mic at The Hop Shoppe in Staten Island, New York. He started hosting the Table Open Mic in 2016 and he talks about how he got started hosting that event. He talks about how being involved with preaching, worship teams, and youth groups when he was younger got him started with performing. He started performing when he was 18 and this led to performing Hip-Hop and Rap music in the 1990s, his first live performance being in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn. He performed as a rapper throughout the U.S. and went on to perform in California, Texas, and Florida. He began involvement with worship team The Timothy Project which took him to Norway to perform rap music in the Summer of 2000. He later talked about what plans he has for the future including hosting more events on Staten island as well as an album to be released later on in 2022. Eddie Murphy was a huge comedic influence on Donny as his Raw and Delirious specials had a huge impact on his development as a comedian. We talk about the challenges of being a host and how Donny’s main mission is to create an environment that uplifts people. He talked about his love for putting together events and how his ultimate plan before he passes is to create a Staten Island Renaissance. To show what the borough has to offer in terms of it’s creative community. Later on we talk about the difference between hard work and talent and navigating social media as an artist. Donny’s opinion on whether or not its important to either be a jack of all trades or focus specifically on one or two strong suits. 2022 sees Donny looking to monetize his multi-faceted pursuits. Aaron Keith is a Singer-Songwriter/Pop Artist from Queens, New York. Gearing up to release his debut single "Should We Link Up" Aaron talked about writing his debut single and his planned debut studio album set to be released within the next year. Aaron connected with Hunter and Dave From No Fltr Tunes in New Jersey help him produce the track. We later talked about his biggest musical influences and how growing up he originally wanted to pursue making indie/alternative music before transitioning to pop. Aaron's biggest influences as a songwriter are Drake, Catfish and The Bottlemen, Justin Bieber, Tate McRae and Clairo. We talked about his first time performing live and the excitement that came along with that. Later on in the episode, we talked about creating a budget as an independent artist in order to market your music and the different trajectories artists take when starting their musical career, including pursuing a record label deal and staying independent in order to gain leverage. Aaron and I talked about the importance of content creation and quality music in order to cut through the clutter on social media and gain serious attention. In this episode, I sat down with Sacrvment an electronic artist and producer from Staten Island, New York. In this episode, we talked about his new project "Prototype." In this episode, I sat down with Antonio Mancilla @mrantoniomusic. Antonio is a singer-songwriter and guitarist from Staten Island, New York who hosts numerous open mics and events around Staten Island and Brooklyn. We talked about his biggest musical influences which include artists such as Trent Reznor, Johnny Cash, The Killers, and Kings of Leon. We dived into why he first started getting involved with hosting live events and how he became the host of numerous open mics at NYC venues such as Kitty Kiernan's O'Henry's Publick House, and Joe Broadways. He went on to perform two original songs "Hooks" and "Antelope Gamble." In this episode I sat down with Niall Sullivan, a NYC based- musician, bassist, and songwriter. Originally born in Manhattan, Niall started playing multiple instruments at a young age encouraged by his family, notably his grandmother. He started taking piano and trombone lessons before eventually settling on bass guitar. Niall talked about his upbringing and his biggest musical influences including what made him want to get into music performance. We talked about the creation of NYC band Pastel which Niall co-founded with lead singer Nick after originally meeting in high school. We dived into his time with Jazz-Fusion Improvisational group The Jazztronauts and how he was introduced the opportunity to be apart of the group through a chance meeting at The Craft House in Staten Island.
