Due to his powerful army which had won 260 kg in 8 years, he became a prominent leader of the freedom struggle of Maharashtra. He was born on February 19, 1630 in Pune. He was a great warrior and strategist of India. He built a powerful navy. Shivaji was an expert in making war strategies. It was Shivaji who formed a professional army of Marathas. Shivaji actually fueled a movement that sowed the seeds of the decline and ruin of the Mughal Empire. He was a proponent of guerrilla warfare.
