Ep. 3 - Christian Censorship | Your Feelings Don’t Matter.

Harry Potter?🪄 NO! Secular music?🎵 NO WAY! Spaghetti straps? 💄 ABSOLUTELY NOT! This kind of Censorship in the Modern Christian Church is a given, especially if you grew up going to Youth Group.😂 Like me, you may have been taught that those types of “worldly”, “secular” things could “plant bad seeds” in your heart! HELLLOOO, didn’t you learn anything from “I Kissed Dating Goodbye”? Oh wait, never mind, that guy deconstructed too. Many of us were taught that when you dabble in “sinful” activities, you’re in the devil’s playground👹(lowercase “d” on the word “devil”, just to be safe!): DANGER! 💀☠️ But this is not the only type of Christian Censorship we address in today’s episode, we also discuss another type of censorship: Censorship of the Self. The Censorship of Emotions. Suppression of the Heart. You CAN’T trust your heart, dear child, don’t you know!?🙏 ⚠️Haven’t you heard Jeremiah 17:9?!?!⚠️ “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked: who can know it?” Feeling depressed? Are you being bullied in school? Have you been sexually assaulted or harassed? Are you struggling with addiction? Self-harm? Are you questioning your sexuality or gender? NOooO PROBLEM!!!!!!!!!!! 🎵 The Antidote??? THE JOY OF THE LORD, SILLY!😃😃😃 I’m sure like me, you may have heard things like: “Turn that frown upside down!” “JESUS LOVES YOU! There’s no need to be depressed!” “You must have opened up a door to the devil somewhere.” “Are you praying enough?” “Well, maybe if you came to church last week…..” “There’s no reason to be sad, Jesus saves!” Etc. Sound familiar? What happens when Christian platitudes just aren’t cutting it? In today’s episode, we discuss how harmful this kind of emotional suppression, avoidance, and censorship can truly be on the psyche.
