Ashley Tabatabai, writer/co-director of the Oscar® qualified HAMDARDI is here to talk about his work and it is as timely as ever. This is a story of a bereaved immigration officer whose inner turmoil awakens his compassion to the plight of two young Iranian travellers who are caught in an unfair travel ban. The prejudice highlighted in this film sheds light on the broader issues of immigration and the human cost of policy decisions. Co-directors Ashley Tabatabai and Stefan Fairlamb’s HAMDARDI follows the story of a bereaved immigration officer whose inner turmoil awakens his compassion to the plight of two young Iranian travellers caught in an unfair travel ban. This inspiring and informative short film has qualified to be considered for the 97th Academy® Awards.  A bereaved immigration officer struggles with his role in the system after meeting a young Iranian brother and sister detained during the travel ban. Writer/co-director and producer Ashley Tabatabai is an award-winning international actor and filmmaker from a culturally diverse background. He has appeared in various series and independent films, including AVENUE 5 (HBO) and BANK OF DAVE 2: THE LOAN RANGER (Netflix). He produced, wrote and starred in the award-winning short film FALSIFIED which was long-listed for the 2018 Oscars®, this was also his first project under his production company Taba Productions. Co-director Stefan Fairlamb is a British filmmaker. Most recently he has continued with his editing work on projects such as the Amazon Exclusive Series TAKE US HOME: LEEDS UNITED. Alongside that Stefan is now taking the leap into directing, working in collaboration with Ashley Tabatabai as co-director of FALSIFIED. HAMDARDI marks his second short film in the director chair.
