Ep 332- James Ward Byrkit, Director & Creator, Talks His New Series "Shatter Belt" Starring Patton Oswalt Now Streaming!

Timed to the 10th Anniversary of the critical darling COHERENCE, and the new series SHATTER BELT – director/series creator James Ward Byrkit comes to The Roundtable to chat all about it! SHATTER BELT stars Emmy Award-Winner Patton Oswalt, Abigail Spencer, Emily Baldoni and more, and is a mind-bending series that dives head first into the deep end questions about our relationship to reality.   James Ward Byrkit grew up in the forest near Flagstaff, Arizona helping his father explore ancient Spanish and Indigenous trails in remote regions of the state. His love of storytelling and drawing led him to CalArts where he began to make bizarre, multilayered films that broke traditional narrative rules. He cut his teeth designing elaborate visuals for Hollywood blockbusters like the original PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN trilogy. He co-wrote the Academy Award-winning animated feature RANGO, wrote music for and performed several voices in the film.  Byrkit’s first feature attempt COHERENCE garnered several major festival awards as well as a Gotham Award nomination for Breakout Director. The film was shot in five nights with no crew and no script. The dialogue was 98% improvised based on clues and notes given individually to the actors before they arrived.  The movie is now considered a major international cult sci-fi favorite, inspiring a generation of filmmakers and landing at the top of several “Best Of” lists.  Byrkit’s television series “Shatter Belt” follows multiple stories that explore the edge of consciousness and human intention.
