Ep 400 | Angela Bassett’s Black Entitlement on Full Display at Oscars

from Fearless with Jason Whitlock · host Blaze Podcast Network

Hollywood made it through the Oscars without a single act of physical violence, but if looks could kill, Angela Bassett would have been able to pull off what Michael Myers couldn’t: take out Jamie Lee Curtis. When Curtis was announced as the winner of the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress, Bassett couldn’t even feign a little joy for her fellow nominee. She sat stone-faced in her chair as the rest of the audience responded with a standing ovation. Jason says Bassett’s reaction encapsulates the pandemic of entitlement and victimhood in America. Her role in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” should have all but guaranteed her an Academy Award — after all, it was the greatest film in black cinematic history. Jason refers to this type of entitlement as “trickle-down racial justice.” “Trickle-down racial justice is the theory that argues the rewards given to spoiled black elites eventually benefit poor black people. Denying Bassett an Oscar means a little black girl in Chicago or Buffalo or San Antonio is less likely to get an A in her math or English class. The celebration and honoring of Bassett and other black elites are critical to closing all racial achievement gaps.” “Fearless” contributor Shemeka Michelle adds her flavor to the discussion and tries to help Jason figure out how “Everything Everywhere All at Once” was the best film that Hollywood could muster last year. Steve Kim drops in to hit the latest NFL headlines, including Jalen Ramsey's journey to South Beach. Does this mean the Dolphins are now stuck with Tua as QB? And re-rack the Lamar Jackson outrage as rumors swirl that no other NFL team is willing to take in the former league MVP. We want to hear from the Fearless Army!!
