EP. 47 Transforming Pain into Resilience: An Eating Disorder Story of Hope | In Conversation with Scarlett O'Connor A 47-year-old mother of 7 who battled severe binge/purge anorexia for 25 years. Despite being an overweight child/teen, she chose life after being admitted to a treatment facility 9 years ago. Now, she is dedicated to help others using my own recovery method as a qualified therapist. "I aim to raise awareness about the severity of binge/purge eating disorders, which are often overlooked compared to anorexia. The shame and embarrassment associated with bulimic behaviors hinder people from seeking treatment. I also advocate for including male sufferers in treatment approaches and data. Having experienced the addictive and destructive cycles of bingeing and purging for 6 hours a day, I understand the toll it takes. Throughout my eating disorder, I battled depression, anxiety, and psychosis, damaging my teeth and losing years of my life and career. After hitting rock bottom, I developed my own recovery method, which now helps others. While everyone's recovery journey is unique, I believe that more discussions about bulimia and binge/purge eating disorders are needed. Self-love is personal and individual, and not everyone will have the same level of outward confidence." - Scarlett O'Connor
