My Secret Life With An Eating Disorder
by Maureen Kritzer-Lange MSW, LCSW
I'm Maureen Kritzer-Lange a Psychoanalyst specializing in Eating Disorders (The Queen of Self Esteem & creator of the “Don't Trust the Mirror” Movement). This is my personal story of my struggles with an eating disorder. I thought it would take my life. I had nobody to talk to so I began journaling while in high school. In my podcast I share stories from this journal and then use my psychoanalyst perspective to reflect on my “younger” self. My life mission is to help women get their lives back. I lived it, I breathed it and now I have the courage to talk about it.

EP 105 When Being Alone Almost Killed Me! | In Conversation with John Weiman cplcHe was one of the top marriage therapists in the country. But when his life unraveled—divorce, death, isolation—his only companion became a bottle. One night, he walked into a hospital with stomach pain. Hours later, doctors told him his liver was failing. Two months to live. What followed was a battle for survival, self-esteem, and redemption so raw it will change how you see loneliness forever.Listen to My Secret Life with an Eating Disorder as Maureen Kritzer-Lange sits down with John Weiman—a man who went from being abandoned, addicted, and dying… to being reborn through courage, connection, and truth. Hear how he faced death four times, waited 12 years for a transplant, and discovered what it really means to be alone but not lonely.----------------After finishing his training at New York University, he began to work closely with Dr. James Masterson (The Masterson Institute)who was known throughout the world for his work with Narcissistic Personality Disorder and Borderline Personality Disorder. He worked for nine years at a long term psychiatric hospital named High Point Hospital in Rye Brook, New York. After nine years, due to family responsibilities, he left the field for twenty years. After his divorce, mother's death and a friend's death, he began to abuse alcohol. This came to a head 16 years ago when he walked into a hospital with stomach pain. After four hours of testing, they told him he was in complete liver failure and if he continued his behavior, he would be dead in two months. While dedicating himself to his health, he decided to return to the field of his dreams(psychology) He enrolled in The Gottman Institute which is world renowned for its research on what makes and breaks relationships. The Gottmans could predict with 95% accuracy what couples would thrive and what couples wouldn't. John has worked with over three thousand couples and has created a model for sessions that is not time limited. Typically, he meets with couples around three hours and the focus is on walking out of the session better than they walked in. He believes the couple gets further faster. In his experience, couples don't have the patience to meet once a week for an hour for three or four months.

It's about vulnerability. It's about what happens when you don’t believe you're good enough—even as you're trying to rebuild your life. It’s about the silent, relentless voice of self-criticism that tells you you’re unworthy of love, success, or confidence.Through candid storytelling and soul-baring reflection, Maureen gives voice to the hidden struggles so many face while appearing “better” on the outside. This podcast is a safe space for anyone who’s ever felt not good enough—even in recovery.Because healing isn't just about stopping the behavior. It’s about learning to believe you deserve to be here.-----------------------------------Please join the "Don't Trust The Mirror MOVEMENT at http://www.donttrustthemirror.comMaureen’s life mission is to help women be all that they can be – by improving self esteem, help them find their voice and find freedom from shame, guilt and negativity.“I change women’s lives by empowering them to trust THEMSELVES not the mirror.”This podcast represents the opinions of Maureen Kritzer-Lange and her guests to the show and website. EP 94 Confidence is More Than Cosmetics... Putting Your Best Self Forward | Maureen Kritzer-Lange MSW LCSW
EP 94 Confidence is More Than Cosmetics... Putting Your Best Self Forward | Maureen Kritzer-Lange MSW LCSWHow do you put your best self forward? Is it when you’re stepping into a job interview… showing up for a first date… attending a family gathering… or simply walking into the grocery store? In this episode, I’m sharing some honest reflections on what it really takes—not just on the outside, but from the inside out.I recently did a photo shoot, and I was reminded how much effort goes into being "camera-ready." From hair and makeup to lighting and wardrobe—it truly took a village. But here’s the thing: most of us don’t have a glam squad behind us every day. And putting your best self forward isn’t about having the perfect look—it’s about feeling aligned, confident, and radiating your energy. So… how do we show up for ourselves when there’s no photo shoot, no stylist, no filters? It’s about planning, yes—but it’s also about mindset. It’s about giving yourself those extra few minutes to feel put together. It’s about surrounding yourself with people who support your shine. It’s about knowing what makes you feel good—whether that’s wearing your favorite outfit, practicing affirmations, or simply taking a breath before you walk out the door.Remember: Don’t Trust The Mirror. Trust Yourself.Confidence is more than cosmetics—it’s how you feel inside.

ABOUT THIS SHOW
I'm Maureen Kritzer-Lange a Psychoanalyst specializing in Eating Disorders (The Queen of Self Esteem & creator of the “Don't Trust the Mirror” Movement).
