Ep. 55: Weep & Repent

Episode Description: In this episode of Beyond Just Christian Podcast, Brenna reads Scripture from the book of Joel. Although Joel consists of three chapters, it touches on the importance of what true repentance looks like. As we learn from today’s episode, repentance is more than asking for forgiveness. It’s also ensuring that our sin is corrected in the future. Correcting our sin means changing our minds about our sin. Yes, we should acknowledge the repercussions of our sin and ask for forgiveness, but the whole point is to change our mind about our sin. Once our mind is changed, our actions change. Memory Verse: Joel 2:12-13: “That is why the Lord says, ‘Turn to me now, while there is time. Give me your hearts. Come with fasting, weeping, and mourning. Don’t tear your clothing in your grief but tear your hearts instead. Return to the Lord your God, for he is merciful and compassionate, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love. Look them up. • Who did God call out in the book of Joel? • What were the recipients of God’s warning told to do in response to this warning/message? • How were both people and beast affected by the plague/famine? • What does God say about His own character/heart? • How is God full of both justice/vengeance and mercy/compassion? • What does the day of the Lord look like? • What does this book say about God’s heavenly army? • In Joel 2:19-27, why are the people told to rejoice? • What are the events that God predicted would happen? • Who is He displaying His vengeance against? • What does God guarantee in Joel Ch. 3 verses 20-21? • What does the book of Joel teach me personally?
