Ep.59 Out of the Bubble with Models of Diversity Ambassador and model Alison Cline Williams

from Liberté - Free to Be · host Rachel Peru

Those of you that have been listening to this podcast for a while will know how passionate I am about seeing more diversity in the media and fashion industry so I was delighted to be joined by one of the Models of Diversity ambassador and model Alison Cline Williams. Alison started a new career 8 months ago at the age of 46 and I love seeing how passionate she is to be part of the conversation of change and is on a mission to push for more Black older models to be more visible. If you've never heard of the charity Models of Diversity then I recommend you look them up. MOD push for better promotion of "equality and diversity for the public benefit by promoting greater diversity in the fashion, beauty and media industries, where people of minority ethnic origin, older people, larger and smaller people, people with a disability, and non-binary gender people are under-represented"  "Being a Black Mature model in her 40’s I don’t feel that there is enough representation at all for people like me. I love what the charity stands for ( in terms of diversity and inclusion) and if I can even make one brand change the way that they look at the older black model or make a women’s like me have more self confidence then I would have made a difference" With this in mind Alison is a perfect fit for her ambassador role. Subjects covered- Dealing with rejection  Staring a new career as a model at 46 Black role models in the fashion industry Embracing change Models of Diversity and her role as an ambassador Why representation in the media, advertising and fashion industry matters Tokenism in campaigns in the aftermath of Black Lives Matter The need for real change Dream brands and goals Embracing her forties  You can follow Alison on Instagram and You Tube  To find more about the great work Models of Diversity are doing please visit - https://modelsofdiversity.org and you can follow them on social media too Instagram, Twitter and Facebook.
