Ep.71 | Aktin Drieglo aka Olgierd Nitka on his alter egos, socio-ecological issues, and his transformation from graffiti to painter.

from The Last Supper - Art in Asia · host Oscar Venhuis

Artist Aktin Drieglo is my next guest on The Last Supper. From his Cheung Chau studio we spoke about the role of alter egos, how they function as a kind of escapism, social-ecological issues, and how his work has evolved from graffiti to paintings. Olgierd is a professional visual artist, designer and architect. Born in 80s  Poland, he practiced arts in Berlin, notably street art. He then moved to Hong Kong fourteen years ago, where he established a studio on Cheung Chau island. In his works, Olgierd explores the boundaries between abstract and figurative painting. He mixes different media, from painting with photography, to collages, stencil and stamping.  His aesthetic method uses line sketching, as well as abstract patterns, drippings and splashes of colour. The art that results from this plurality of techniques is whimsical, unexpected yet infused with art historical references. Olgierd’s work expresses a quest to make sense of the world and the times we live in. He addresses socio-political and ecological questions, such as achieving a more balanced and sustainable lifestyle; to philosophical questions, such as finitude or folly of human endeavours. @aktin.dreiglo ----- Christie's Education Enjoy 15% Discount and Join a virtual or in-person art course, lecture, workshop, city or art gallery visit.
