Ep. 99 - Glenn Weinraub, DPM Surgeon/Chef/Viet Nam Missions

Dean's Chat hosts, Drs. Jeffrey Jensen and Dr. Johanna Richey are joined by Dr. Glenn Weinraub, a successful podiatric surgeon from San Leandro, California. Dr. Weinraub has always lived life to the fullest extent with hobbies such as dirt bike racing and working as a ski patrol for Mammoth Mountain. It was in Mammoth where he was first introduced to patients who sustained lower extremity injuries and his interest in musculoskeletal trauma began. He continues to live life to the fullest extent and talks about his adventures in shark diving and scuba diving. In this episode, Dr. Weinraub talks about his preparation for his current medical mission trip to Danang, Vietnam with a non-profit organization: Bones Pro Bono! Dr. Weinraub has been working with the same hospital group in Danang for over 12 years and discusses his experiences with complex deformity correction and the impact podiatric surgeons can have on Global health. The discussion about learning fundamental principles and understanding the underlying mechanics are the keys to successful outcomes.  Dr. Weinraub graduated from California State University, Northridge with his bachelor's degree in Molecular biology and went on to get his Doctorate in Podiatric Medicine from the California College of Podiatric Medicine in 1994. He completed his surgical residency with Northern Virigina Foot and Ankle Residency program at INOVA Farifax hospital with additional reconstructive plastic surgery training at Georgetown University with Dr. Chris Attinger MD, FACS. Dr. Weinraub's career has been backed by his passion for academics and research. He has served on the Board of Directors for the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ACFAS) and served as the president of the College from 2011-2012. He has authored many peer-reviewed publications, as well as textbook chapters. He was a trauma section editor for the Journal of Foot and Ankle Surgery (ACFAS) and serves as faculty for several of the ACFAS courses including the arthroscopy course.  His creativity and passion for life are evident in this engaging interview.
