EP015_EN_Despina – the value of mystery, not everything needs to be public

from OLYMPUS - cosmos, miths and self-awareness · host A. Carminati

Despina is a moon of the planet Neptune. In Greek mythology, she is the daughter of Poseidon and Demeter (the goddess of agriculture), won over by him while she was searching for her daughter Persephone. Despina was depicted as a veiled goddess whose true name could be known only by the initiated. A mysterious figure who guarded knowledge protected by responsibility—knowledge that was not meant to be spread, but rather preserved with respect. In our own lives, not everything about us needs to be displayed. What is most precious—what is essential within us—should be safeguarded. In our daily interactions, it is vital to manage both others’ confidences and our own secrets ethically, with moral discipline and awareness. Mystery is not darkness but depth: what truly matters does not always reveal itself.
