EP023_EN_Callisto and Arcas – Following a mentor, and then becoming one yourself

Callisto is one of Jupiter’s moons. In Greek mythology, Callisto was a nymph and a follower of the goddess Artemis, who required her companions to remain chaste. When she was seduced by Zeus, she was punished by being transformed into a bear. She gave birth to her son Arcas, who, once grown and unaware of his mother’s identity, became a hunter. As he was about to kill her, both were transformed into the constellations Ursa Major and Ursa Minor. Callistoand Arcas become constellations because their story marked by a lack of guidance—is turned into a universal symbol: from victims of a life without direction, they become points of reference for humanity. In everyday life, the most valuable guide is a mentor—someone experienced, wise, and willing to guide and support others by example. The goal, at some point, is to become a mentor ourselves.
