“43 Ariadne” is a main-belt asteroid, known for being a bright and elongated object, discovered in 1857. It is the second-largest member of the Flora family and orbits between Mars and Jupiter.In mythology, Ariadne is a Cretan princess, daughter of Minos, who helps Theseus escape the Labyrinth with her famous thread, betraying her father for love.After their escape, however, Theseus abandons her on the island of Naxos, leaving her alone and without identity.The myth concludes with her rebirth: Dionysus finds her, loves her, and makes her immortal.Ariadne realizes that, after giving up everything for love, Theseus did not prove worthy of her sacrifice.
