EP121: Diving Down Into Meaning and Resistance in our Creative Work

from The And She Looked Up Podcast · host Melissa Hartfiel and Heather Travis

This week's episode started out as a recap of our progress for 2022 but very quickly took a turn into a mindset episode as we took a  dive into exploring the deeper (and sometimes darker) aspects of our creativity and how we work: meaning and resistance. We discuss how a simple grant application pushed Heather to explore bigger, far more personal themes in her own artwork, ask how it’s possible to resist doing something you absolutely love and explore what’s behind that (there’s always something big behind that!) and talk about the messiness of creativity - the internal messiness of creativity! And as it often does in any mindset episode, social media makes a brief appearance as we talk about what it means to speak up - or stay quiet - when big things happen in the world. This episode is brought to you by Fine Lime Designs IllustrationsThis is a great episode for creatives who:struggle with resistance when creating their work - even (or especially) when they love what they doponder exploring bigger themes in their workwonder how much of their value system they should share with the world and if it will make an impact. For a summary of this episode and all the links mentioned please visit:Episode120: Diving Into the Meaning and Resistance in Our Creative WorkYou can find Melissa at finelimedesigns.com, finelimeillustrations.com or on Instagram @mhchipmunk.You can find Heather at heatherlynnetravis.com or on Instagram @heathertravis.You can connect with the podcast  on:Instagram at @andshelookedup Facebook YouTube Tik Tok at @AndSheLookedUpFor a list of all available episodes, please visit:And She Looked Up Creative Hour PodcastEach week The And She Looked Up Podcast sits down with inspiring Canadian women who create for a living.
